I am currently engaged in the following projects:
- Advanced Reading Development Demonstration Project (ARDDP)
Funded by the Chicago Community Trust, ARDDP is a partnership between the trust, the Chicago Public Schools and five Chicago area universities designed to develop best practice in literacy in a number of partner schools across the city. - Practicing the Social Studies
A book project that addresses best practice pedagogy in the social studies for the middle grades (5-9). - Color Coded Questioning
An action research project looking at 2nd grade bilingual gifted students in an urban school in a large Midwest district. Co research include Dr. Roger Passman, Dr. Parul Ravel and Ms. Carol Navarro, the classroom teacher. Students use color coded charts to format questions for before, during and after reading. - They are our Questions! Investigating Student Generated Examination Questions
This project will explore the relationship between student generated questions for an end of unit examination and student engagement as a function of learning. Dr. Roger Passman and Ms. Joy Cooper, a high school English teacher in a suburban district, will explore two junior English classrooms as they compare themes found in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Orson Wells’ film Citizen Kane. Student questioning processes will be observed, students will be interviewed, student work will be analyzed and researcher reflective conversations will be recorded.
