About
KUROI OBI
I am an off and on jogger who drifted to becoming seriously involved in running in February 2008. Initially I looked at running as a means to improve my fitness level for another activity I am involved in – Shotokan Karate.
My increased interest in running all started with a fun run held in the office December 2007. It was not a long distance, about 4 kilometers. Participants, ran, jogged and walked. This was an annual event and I told myself to return to fitness and by February 2008 decided to join a 5 k run at UP.
At first, the challenge for me was to reduce my time and run 5 k non-stop.
My first 10 k run was by accident – the Mizuno Rush to Infinity Run in June 2008. This was not planned since I intended to join the 5 k but registration was closed already. It was a run and walk experience for me and I realized that I have to put in more kilometers to my training.
In August 2008, I came across the Impromptu Runners aka Happy Feet and my running experience became more fun.
In September 2008 I joined the 10 k run at the PMI …Proudly 60…Run, UP Campus. After this run, I tried to join most of the 10 k races available.
I am looking forward to running longer distances and hope I will be ready for the Condura 21 k race in 2009.
About KUROI OBI?
I am Jesus (Jesse) Canono. I am an accountant by profession residing in the Philippines. I am also a 2nd Dan Blackbelter with the KDA (Karate Develoipment Arts & Sports).
Kuroi Obi or Black Belt, indicated a proficiency level and those who earned became known as Yudansha (Dan recipients). We must realize that one’s training was in no way complete simply because one had achieved the Dan degree. On the contrary, the attainment of the Dan rank merely symbolized the real beginning of one’s journey. By reaching Black Belt level, one had, in fact, completed only the necessary requirements to embark upon a relentless journey without distance that would ultimately result in self-mastery.
