I’m a native Californian doing two years of graduate study in theoretical physics in the United Kingdom under a Marshall scholarship. From 2006-2007 I did Part III of the Mathematics Tripos at the University of Cambridge and until 2008 I will be doing a M.Sc. in particle theory at the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology at Durham University. During this year I will also spend some time as a visiting researcher with the Theoretical Physics Division of the University of Ioannina in Greece. I will return to the US in 2008 to complete a Ph.D. in physics.

The purpose of this blog is to document my experiences in the UK as an American expatriate studying physics. I hope to post about culture shock, differences in pedagogy, interesting physics topics, living in the UK, and a few random topics of tangential relevance. Prior to September 2006 this was a ‘practice blog’ titled “A Stanford Physics Student in Berkeley” in which I wrote about living in Berkeley, California the summer after completing my undergraduate degree.

My research field is `beyond the Standard Model particle phenomenology’. I’m interested in the new physics at current and next-generation particle accelerators. My current (and broad) topics of interest are supersymmetric/extra dimensional models, grand unification, and CP violation/flavour physics.
