TRAVELLERS flying on budget airlines are being warned that they may end up paying more than if they’d chosen a full-service airline.

The increasing number of extra charges airlines being introduced by some airlines can easily triple the cost of a budget ticket, an analysis of the nation’s budget carriers by Flight Centre has found.

This is of course rubbish. Full-service airlines like the Qantas – the shame of Australia – pay commission to travel agents like flight centre to say things like this to customers. Presumably now they are also paying money to news.com to say the same thing.

Of course travel agents would warn against using low-cost carriers, since a large part of why LCCs are so much cheaper is that they completely cut travel agents out of the air travel industry. Airlines like Air Asia even sell their own accommodation packages with their flights, something which is rapidly in the process of sending businesses like Flight Centre bankrupt.

THERE are renewed calls for the immediate closure of the Uluru rock climb after more photos emerged of controversial behaviour at the sacred site.

Football personality Sam Newman has been pictured hitting a golf ball off the rock, while another man was photographed naked on top of the monolith.

And the 21st century definition of racism rears its head:

NT Aboriginal leader and Central Land Council member Maurie Ryan said the behaviour on top of the spiritual centre was “racist”.

“That is an insult to the people of Mutitjulu, and Australia,” he said. “That is a very sacred site. This is racist.”

A South African doctor has developed a new anti-rape female condom that has been unveiled in time for the World Cup.

The Rape-aXe was invented by Dr Sonnet Ehlers, who plans to distribute 30,000 of the devices during the course of the World Cup, CNN reports.

The latex condom is inserted by the woman like a tampon, and features jagged rows of teeth-like hooks that latch onto an attacker’s penis upon penetration.

Once attached, only a doctor can remove the Rape-aXe and Ehlers hopes authorities will be on the scene during any potential removals.

Possible problems with this plan:

a: One of the major danger in being raped is that they will kill you afterwards, a condom won’t help that
b: The old “hooks in the penis” thing is probably only likely to enrage a rapist, making them more likely to kill you in any case
c: By the time this does anything, you’ve already been raped. It might help to catch the guy who did it but in most cases of rape that is rarely the issue anyway.

Since prevention is better than cure, might I suggest this instead?

Another concern for Sgt Bahen is toolies, older people looking to take advantage of young women, who he said would be removed if they were found on the island.

“Our message for toolies is you’ll be straight behind bars, and you’ll be off the island so fast your feet won’t even touch the ground,” Sgt Bahen said.

So if you are over 17, male, and anywhere on Rottnest this week, then you will be either behind bars or deported from the Island.

So much for the disease. What about the cure? WADA developed stringent and zealous procedures in the context of athletics, and rightly so. But one size does not fit all. To apply rules designed for athletics and apply them to cricket is disproportionate and potentially destructive.
