The Illinois Board of Higher Education has approved a $2.7 billion budget request for the upcoming fiscal year, a 4.6% increase over the funding level lawmakers approved for this year. But their request came at the same time Gov. JB Pritzker announced he was reducing this year's higher ed budget by $30.5 million. Both moves prompted criticism from the union that represents university employees.
