Ocean Alliance
Marine mammal research and conservation since 1971
Ocean Alliance is a 501©3 non-profit organization, and one of the world’s first organizations dedicated to the protection of whales and their environment. We are based in, and primarily serve, our local community in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
While our programming is regionally focused, our research programs have helped shape humanity’s understanding of whales; and our education and outreach initiatives have introduced millions of people worldwide to the world of whales – and why it is so important that we protect them.

02 Headquarters
Ocean Alliance
Innovation Center
When Ocean Alliance purchased this iconic site in 2008 the goal was to build an ocean innovation center. Three of the six buildings on site are already fulfilling that mission with final permitting underway for the iconic Manufactory building and our climate-change proof floating Innovation center.

Ocean Alliance
Acoustic Library
Ocean Alliance has more than 2,400 recordings of whale and ocean sounds, recorded from the 1950s to the 1990s. With help from the Council on Library and Information Resources, board contributions, and the Coller Foundation, we are digitizing these amazing historical sounds.
