Apart from this, each individual is eligible for a research grant of Rs. 2 lakhs per year (up to Rs 10 lakhs for five years).
Mission
The PMRF Scheme is designed for supporting the very best talents in doctoral research in India with attractive fellowships.
It aspires to build and nurture outstanding research ecosystems in the country and focus on extremely challenging and innovative research problems. The scheme was announced in the Budget 2018-19.
Scope
At present PMRF scheme is being offered in all the IITs and IISERs, IISc Bangalore and some of the top Central Universities/NITs that offer science and/or technology degrees.
Students
PMRF program offers two modes of entry which are Direct and Lateral. Students join through lateral entry mode within the first two years, and the direct entry mode within the first semester of their joining a regular PhD program. Presently all seats sanctioned by the ministry have been filled up. Further approval for admissions awaited.

National Coordinating Institute (NCI)
The National Coordinating Institute for the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF) is appointed by the Ministry of Education (MoE) to oversee the program's implementation.
The NCI manages the key aspects such as admissions, annual reviews, financial disbursements, and communication with scholars.
NCC Committee
The National Coordination Committee (NCC) of the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF) program plays a key role in formulating guidelines that govern the fellowship. These guidelines cover aspects such as admissions, scholar reviews, fellowship disbursement, and program structure.
By setting these standards, the NCC ensures consistency and transparency across all participating institutes, helping to maintain the high quality and integrity of the PMRF program.

The Prime Minister's Research Fellows (PMRF) Scheme has been designed for improving the quality of research in various higher educational institutions in the country. With attractive fellowships, the scheme seeks to attract the best talent into research thereby realizing the vision of development through innovation. The scheme was announced in the Budget 2018-19.
The institutes which can offer PMRF include all the IITs, all the IISERs, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru and some of the top Central Universities/NITs that offer science and/or technology degrees.
The candidates will be selected through a rigorous selection process and their performance will be reviewed suitably through a national convention.
