Top level home page for www.pgp.net at earth.net.uk.pgp.net [00060918]
The pgp.net domain is currently primarily concerned with making access to users PGP keys as simple as possible. It does have a list of some of the servers which hold PGP sources (as on the TERENA Secure Email CD), but this role is secondary.
The pgp.net domain services run on a number of replicated servers.
Using the name www.pgp.net for Web access will get you a "random" one, due to the DNS's
shuffling of A RRs
(this page is from earth.net.uk.pgp.net).
You may instead choose to use a Web server which is "nearer" to you.
You can
let the server guess,
select to force the use of
earth.net.uk.pgp.net,
or choose from:
at,
ca,
ch,
dk,
de,
no,
se,
uk,
(or maybe out of date ones:
tw,
it
or some under development:
au).
Most of these use
mirror, but
it is also possible using
Victor Parada's
webcopy.
Additional offers to mirror greatfully accepted by
postmaster@mail.pgp.net.

Anyone using (or contemplating using) PGP 5 should read Brad Knowles' PGP 5 Tips on how to get things to actually work.
Known future developments in PGP servers and related subjects are:
- Michael Graff <explorer@flame.org> is working on a "2nd Generation" key server, based on a DNS style distributed & delegated systems.
- Marc Horowitz has re-implemented the "current" email based key server, using C instead of perl, and using C instead of PGP to manage keys. Contact "Jeffrey I. Schiller" <jis@mit.edu> for more details.
- UKERNA Secure Email Project : A paper only report of what ac.uk might have done about secure email (not taken up).
