Cuba and the Independence War in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde
The Fall of the Last Colonial Empire In Africa
In 1974–75 the people of two West African countries, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, put an end to 500 years of Portuguese colonial exploitation. Led by a popular movement forged by Amílcar Cabral, their struggle triggered the collapse of Portugal’s entire colonial empire and brought down the 40-year fascist dictatorship in Portugal itself. Víctor Dreke’s firsthand account brings to life this decisive victory.

Cosmetics, Fashion,
and the Exploitation of WomenHow do capitalism’s cosmetics and fashion “industries” play on the emotional, sexual, and economic insecurities of women and adolescents to generate profits?
How did women become “the second sex,” and how can this product of class-divided society be ended? How is this oppression weakened by the integration of women into the work force? In the early 1950s, a lively debate was sparked by an article in the US socialist newsweekly the Militant exposing the ruthless profit drive of the giant cosmetics monopolies. Today this exchange is recognized as a classic of Marxism, an introduction to the origins of the oppression of women—and the road toward emancipation.VIEW BOOK

LABOR, NATURE, AND THE EVOLUTION OF HUMANITY
The long view of history
Without understanding that social labor, transforming nature, has driven humanity's evolution for millions of years, working people are unable to see beyond the capitalist epoch of class exploitation that warps all human relations, ideas, and values. The dictatorship of capital had a beginning ... and will have an end. But only the revolutionary conquest of state power by the working class can open the door to a world free of capitalism's dog-eat-dog exploitation, racism, subjugation of women, destruction of nature, and war. A world built on human solidarity. A socialist world.

The Cuban Revolution in World Politics Series.
This 32-volume series includes essential speeches, documents, and interviews spanning over 50 years of revolutionary activity by men and women whose lives have been shaped by their determination to defend the Cuban revolution and its internationalist course—from the Congo, to Angola and southern Africa, to Grenada, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and beyond. First-hand accounts of a revolution that continues to change the course of history. Each of the 32 volumes is a chapter in the history of the Cuban Revolution, as told by those on the front lines of that ongoing epic. Introductions by series editor Mary-Alice Waters highlight the experiences of fighters over decades, from the guerrilla war in the Sierra Maestra and the revolutionary underground in Cuba’s cities to the Bay of Pigs, Vietnam, Angola, and Venezuela. They provide a historical and political background that makes the material accessible to readers unfamiliar with Cuba and its role in the world today.

‟...The culture of language itself is the most important condition for the growth of all branches of culture, especially science and art...Yes, culture was the main instrument of class oppression. But it also, and only it, can become the instrument of socialist emancipation.″
