The Wolf and His King by Finn Longman: Review by Liz Bourke
The Wolf and His King, Finn Longman (Gollancz 978-1-39962-099-4, £20.00, 350pp, hc) November 2025. (Erewhon 978-1-64566-311-9, $32.00 368pp, hc) January 2026.
I read Finn Longman’s first trilogy, The Butterfly Assassin and its sequels, soon after encountering Longman discussing their research on the medieval late Ulster Cycle on Bluesky. I seldom regret reading books by interesting people, and that trilogy, YA but dealing with deeply adult themes of violence, trauma, revolution …Read More

Letters from an Imaginary Country by Theodora Goss: Review by Gary K. Wolfe
Letters from an Imaginary Country, Theodora Goss (Tachyon 978-1-61696-440-5, $18.95, 352pp, tp) November 2025.
I’m deeply interested in how we create reality through stories, writes Theodora Goss in one of the story notes for her collection Letters from an Imaginary Country. Perhaps all of these stories are just variations on that theme. Given how consistently the 16 stories engage with the varieties of story-making, she’s probably right. But …Read More

These Bodies Ain’t Broken edited by Madeline Dyer: Review by Alex Brown
These Bodies Ain’t Broken, Madeline Dyer, ed. (Page Street Publishing 979-8-89003-302-4, $18.99. 384pp, hc) October 2025.
Unless I’m mistaken, These Bodies Ain’t Broken, edited by Madeline Dyer, is one of only three traditionally published young-adult anthologies focused on ownvoices disability stories – the other two being Owning It: Stories About Teens with Disabilities from 2008 and Unbroken: 13 Stories Starring Disabled Teens from 2018. What this anthology does that the …Read More

Orlanda, Jacqueline Harpman (Seven Stories Press 978-1-644215-166, $18.95, 224pp, tp) September 2025.
Jacqueline Harpman (1929-2012) was a Belgian author of more than 20 novels, winner of some of the highest honors in francophone writing. Only two of her novels have been translated into English, of which by far the more famous is I Who Have Never Known Men (1995), a postapocalyptic dystopia narrated by a girl who has been raised …Read More

Red Star Hustle by Sam J. Miller / Apprehension by Mary Robinette Kowal: Review by Adrienne Martini
Red Star Hustle, Sam J. Miller / Apprehension, Mary Robinette Kowal (Saga Press 978-116-809915-52, $20.00, 416pp, tp) October 2025.
I worked at my local Waldenbooks during high school and early college. Some of the most exciting days were when the next installment of Stephen King’s serialized The Green Mile would show up in our distribution boxes or when the newest Tor Double was released. These paperbacks paired two shorter works …Read More

It’s Locus‘s 2025 Holiday Countdown of Staff Picks!
In case you missed it, Locus contributor Jake Casella Brookins picks Notes from a Regicide by Isaac Fellman: Everything and anything I try to say about this book sounds like hyperbole, and it all falls short of the actual text.
