We are a DOE Office of Science User Facility
Supported by the DOE’s Biological and Environmental Research program, the JGI provides advanced genomic capabilities, large-scale AI-ready data and professional expertise so researchers can contribute to advancing energy and infrastructure security.
The JGI offers deep expertise and a broad toolset.
Analyze Data
Access community data and leverage tools available from JGI portals and partners.
We generate and provide access to data that support interdisciplinary work on a broad variety of organisms. Each dot in these networks shows a publication that mentions a given data portal, with work that cross-references multiple portals in between respective hubs.
JGI’s scientific contributions reverberates over time to enable many discoveries. The Soybean genome shown is one example — since the original reference genome, the entire project has directly impacted over 5,000 unique studies. These works have gone on to influence over 100,000 further studies.
Join the JGI and the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory for “Empowering Automated Laboratories: Integrating Experimentation with Data.” Topics will include environmental microbiomes, biodesign & synthetic biology, AI/ML-enabled lab automation, and data integration & modeling.
By leveraging our massive user-generated datasets and other publicly available environmental data, this new JGI tools employs AI to help discover and model complex biological sequences such as biosynthetic gene cluster structures.
This year, the JGI has accepted research projects from 14 scientists who will accelerates bioenergy innovation through genomic discovery across diverse organisms and ecosystems.
