I’m so sad to read this. Des was a great guy – full of humor and warmth. I met him decades ago when I first went to an NSNC conference with my mom, Marge Eliscu. May Des rest in the most loving and fun part of God’s Heaven. I shall never forget him!

Sometimes when writing my Close to Home column for The Prospect-News, the weekly newspaper in my hometown of Doniphan, MO, I check an online wacky/bizarre calendar for ideas. Tomorrow’s submission is about National Columnists Day and Ernie Pyle Remembrance Day. After the writing was finished, I searched for more information about this organization. Had I read more carefully, I would have joined in time to enter this year’s contest. I’m here now, though, and will enjoy getting famililar with the website.

Congratulations, Bonny!
Thank for your succinct and informative suggestions. I don’t normally write op-ed pieces, but will keep this info in mind. It’s also good advice for writing stories. ]]>

Hey, John B!
I so enjoyed your year in rhyme!
For more poetics, there will be time.
Connecting with others was on the lam
But that will be remedied in Birmingham. ]]>

Tony! What a poetic rendering of those whose writings fired bright through a relentless fog of smoke and chaos. Yours is a great reminder that life (and attention spans) are too short, so write with conviction and clarity.
