Dean of the College
The Office of the Dean of the College is responsible for the undergraduate academic program and for supporting the faculty and staff who bring it to life. The Dean’s Office upholds the faculty governance structure of the College while overseeing the undergraduate curriculum and leading discussions of pedagogical and curricular innovation. Our office provides both opportunities and resources designed to encourage members of the Bard faculty to pursue their finest work.
For Fall 2025: Bard College Policy on Academic Use of Generative AI
Dear Colleagues,
Following Phil Pardi's generous resource sharing (see attached) earlier this week, I write to communicate the College's newly adopted Policy on Academic Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI). Please read the attached document carefully and articulate your own course policy when you distribute syllabus and course materials for the start of term next week.
Also attached, you will find a helpful introduction to FERPA prepared by Lauren Gretina as well as Leslie Melvin's essential overview of privacy considerations for both students and faculty. Every faculty member should be aware of these concerns.
Our office looks forward to providing further resources and ongoing opportunities to discuss the impact of such technologies on learning here at Bard.
