The hosts, experienced underwater shooters, Alex Mustard and Matt Sullivan chat about techniques, equipment choices, locations and topical events in our community like contest results, shows and major publications. Matthew and Alex show exactly how they process their underwater photos, with both of them choosing an unprocessed macro and a wide angle photo and then walk you through how they process them from RAW file to finished image. Both of them show one example of a well-taken photo and one example of a shot that required some rescuing. Matthew and Alex answer questions from listeners about the use of flash, when it might be harmful and how to approach shooting in available light. The teams of marine biologists who have studied this, and published peer reviewed science on the topic, conclude that flash itself is a negligible disturbance on the range of species studied, but Alex still encourages a moderated approach and one always led by the behaviour of the subject. While the science may point to flash having a limited impact on most typical underwater subjects, which are exposed to light underwater which is constantly changing as sunlight is dappled by the surface of the sea, this is still an important subject for underwater photographers to consider and discuss.
