Atlanta Interdisciplinary
Artificial Intelligence
Network
We are an intentionally interdisciplinary network of Atlanta-based researchers investigating how to enlist AI ethically, equitably, and in the service of justice.

Atlanta Focused
We aim to bring the city of Atlanta, with its historical place in the civil rights movement, to current conversations about the biases embedded in our AI systems.
Humanities Forward
We believe that an equitable, ethical, and justice-oriented approach to AI is possible when humanistic ways of thinking come together with technical knowledge and community expertise.

Opportunities
Our 2025 call for seed grant applications for funding up to $5,000 is live!
We are eager to expand the AIAI Network by supporting:
New projects and other research collaborations at the intersection of AI and the humanities;
New projects and collaborations about the intersection of AI and Culture or AI and The City, with reference, grounding, or comparison to Atlanta; and
Professional development funds to enable new AIAI members (that’s you!) to support events of their own, such as reading groups, training workshops, speaker series, community events, etc.
For projects that don’t yet have an Atlanta focus or Atlanta collaborator, come talk with us or send us an email at info@aiai.network.
Deadline December 1st, 2025.

Projects
Secondhand Futures
Stuff is made (and discarded) in exce$$. Time is made scarce. We investigate the infrastructures of work, technology and values in secondhand economies. Between oceans of discarded stuff and the drive to ‘hustle,’ many have turned to reselling as a form of work in the US. Extending an established infrastructure of donation-powered charities and thrift stores, a growing number of online marketplaces have increasingly digitalized these transactions, bringing new players and dynamics to secondhand. We seek to understand and reimagine secondhand economies together with resellers and other participants in these ecosystems.

AIAI Data Collective
The AIAI Data Collective is dedicated to modeling contextual and ethical data collection, documentation, storage, and sharing for AI research. Our website will house and, when appropriate, share AI training data according to best practices in the field
Meet our team
Our intra-institutional team includes members from Emory University, Clark Atlanta University, Georgia Tech, and DataEdX, a local data equity consultancy.
