Think your first choice for Ladykiller works well, particularly since I just determined (as I update character and story notes) that she’s got auburn hair and occasionally dyes it strawberry blonde. Looks like Durance could wear either shade well, particularly the former.
Glad to see you chime in on Janus. I purposefully left him alone in my post thinking you or someone else might have some good ideas for him. Both guys you picked would be good at doing a quietly (for the most part) menacing guy and projecting plenty of personality even from behind a mask all the time.

For Ladykiller/Honeybadger, since her surname appears to be of Canadian descent (thank you, Wikipedia), I think Canadian actress Erica Durance (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1570568/) would work although she’s a few years older than Shum (not sure on your ideal age range between the two characters). If not her, Lena Headey (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0372176/) can look much younger than she really is based on imdb pictures.
For Janus, I can’t help but feel that Hugo Weaving would be perfect for the character. Or possibly even Tim Curry (in a different but equally powerful way).

Some last names, of course, could invite Black or White interpretations, and I haven’t been explicit (yet) as to the races of many of those characters (though a racial breakdown of everyone will come in the future). But, it will trend more toward Black than White given the genetic dynamics of transhuman powers.

– What if a teen or young adult went to the doctor thinking they had a disease, but it was a manifestation of emerging powers? Also, what if those powers fully and dramatically emerged in the doctor’s office?
– Also, even though I’ve covered the notion of emergency care for some transumans (most notably in the story at https://whethermentales.wordpress.com/2010/12/13/fresh-wounds-old-scars/ ), might there be a reason for a costumed transhuman to go to a doctor or hospital for something more routine or less critical, and what challenges might that entail?
– What if a transhuman Primal, Psi or Interfacer was giving birth, and reflexively projecting pain on the birthing staff and others in the maternity ward or birthing center?
– What if some routine genetic testing revealed to someone that they were a transhuman, and then that information got out to employers or insurer and caused them hassles in life?
– Might people dating or considering marriage require that their paramour undergo genetic testing for fear they may have active transhuman genes? What might happen in the relationship if the other person came back positive? What if the person demanding their lover get testing found out that person wasn’t positive, but he/she was instead?

Wed, 15 Feb 2012 21:13:35 +0000https://whethermentales.wordpress.com/?p=931#comment-182I was wondering if anyone would be mentally forced to do that pronunciation, as I was.
Appreciated the input. At the age of 43, I’m not too old for insecurities and second-guessing.
Plus, I need something to yap about… 😉

You really boiled down your characters into these interesting equations, and I think that is sufficient to demonstrate their difference to others. Wolverine with breasts living through rape PTSD is not Wolverine at all, that is a completely new character.
I think the characters are great, J-Bou.

Sun, 05 Feb 2012 05:27:39 +0000https://whethermentales.wordpress.com/?p=894#comment-175Writing’s a funny thing, and once again I’m struck at how the story sometimes tells ME what to do instead of the other way around. I started chapter 20 of “The Gathering Storm” this afternoon and figured I’d have the chapter ready tonight or early tomorrow.
Instead, I was compelled to write the final chapter of the story, even though I have several chapters to go before we get to that point. Suddenly, a lot of things just became clear in my mind, and I knew I had to write it all down lest I lose it all. My Muse (or Muses) can be cruel about not reminding me later of things I refused to tackle when they drive me to do so. 😉

Comment on Feedback, If You Please… by Deacon Blue

Wed, 18 Jan 2012 13:50:52 +0000https://whethermentales.wordpress.com/?p=862#comment-167Zoe’s situation will be coming to a head quite soon, probably in a couple chapters from now or so. In fact, how that plays out is pretty much the crux of “The Gathering Storm” storyline…the tipping point, if you will, for what follows in the rest of the storyline, which in turn will impact the forthcoming multipart storylines.
Cole will be an interesting project going forward. I have some ideas of where he’s headed, but not total clarity.
Hadn’t really thought of the Mad Dash/Ladykiller thing specifically, but you bring up a good point. We probably should see them in some direct action.
