Weekday Nursery School, established in 1966, serves children ages 3 to 5 and is administered by the New Rochelle United Methodist Church Council of Ministries as a non-profit, non-sectarian institution. The school is licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and approved by the City of New Rochelle Board of Education.
Weekday's mission is to cultivate a love of learning from the outset of formal education. Each classroom is tailored to meet children's social, emotional, and developmental needs, staffed by NYS Certified head teachers and assistant teachers, many having earned their Child Development Associate (CDA) Certificate. The curriculum, guided by a play-based philosophy, emphasizes active, hands-on learning experiences across language arts, math, science, and motor skills.
The school believes in the importance of individualized learning, recognizing that each child develops at their own pace. By fostering self-help skills, decision-making, and a supportive environment, Weekday aims to build self-esteem and confidence in its students, laying a solid foundation for a lifelong love of learning.
Emphasizing community involvement, Weekday hosts various family-oriented events throughout the year, such as apple picking, an International Feast, and the popular Winter Show. The school participates in charitable activities like the annual “Souper Bowl,” donating food to Hope Community Services. Other events include the “Books, Bags and Buddies” Scholastic Book Fair and the Spring Gala, the school’s largest fundraising effort. Senior Pre-K and Bridge students enjoy a trip to the Westchester Children’s Museum before moving on to Kindergarten, culminating in moving-up ceremonies for each class.
