Hackers Adding Members When Members registration is CLOSED
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192371/
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192371/#When:03:01:24Z

This is an old EE issue I had with 1x, I learned to close member registration as soon as I set up the site.

BUT somehow these monkeys are still getting in even in 2x. They are all “pending” but never the less highly annoying.

How do I close the member registration FORM. Just remove that whole section.

Also I cant seem to delete some of these entries… it says Showing 1 to 8 of 46 entries… there are only 8 and I can’t delete any of the hacked ones.

Help appreciated.

Thanks,
“The uploaded file exceeds the maximum allowed size…”
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/191946/
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/191946/#When:07:21:23Z

Hi,

A client of mine is having trouble uploading a PDF to their site. This is the error message they get:

“The uploaded file exceeds the maximum allowed size in your PHP configuration file”

The odd thing is, when I asked them to email me the PDF, I didn’t encounter any problems uploading the file to their site.

Also, it’s a 952kb file which is smaller than files they’ve previously uploaded without any trouble.

They’re using version 1.6.7, Build: 20090122.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem may be?

Many thanks,

Andy

Using structure module vs native EE approach
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192068/
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192068/#When:12:38:00Z

I know. I know. This is probably the oldest fire-starter around these parts but a search through the forums really didn’t end up yielding any red meat. So here is my take on when to use the structure module vs using native EE channel+category approach. This is all probably based on a novice’s misunderstanding but I am trying to gain insight here - so bear with me folks.

To me both approaches have their own unique applications for unique business and content requirements. The choice I make seems to be related to the kind of site I am building. By the latter, I mean the content architecture and strategy I am recommending on the website I am building. Yeah - I am a content guy first and a web developer second.

So Structure seems to be useful when there aren’t too many categories involved and a page based hierarchical approach seems to be the ideal way to present a tree-like view to the client and user. For a typical corporate website with discreet service listings, I think I would best go with structure. This is when I am sure that the no of pages are limited and ideally in the range of 50-75. If the number exceeded this limit, I feel it would make diminishing visible sense to view a vertical structure and find the right child page to which to add a new page.

The native approach seems to be more powerful and adaptable to media, magazine, product related web portals where there can be more than 8000 entries residing in each channel and the site adds fifty entries a week. I also prefer to look at content as not being contained in a page but being available on-demand as a source when called upon by a template (a stiff nod to @Boyink in that direction). A movie magazine site would have more of entries rather than pages.

One more thing I would like to point out: right now it seems more natural to establish relationships between channels rather than between pages. One movie entry can be reused as a review, piece of a dvd store description or a wiki entry. Can you say the same about pages? I really don’t know and would like to be enlightened.

So now I would really like to know how wrong I am and how right I am as a novice. I am building out two separate websites from each of the above mentioned categories. Would love to hear about your experiences. Please share your stories.

Setting to turn off the logout confirmation window (or remove)
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192370/
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192370/#When:02:58:17Z

For me (and my clients) the logout confirmation could just all well be taken out completely.

I don’t know why it’s there, maybe other people like it, but please create a setting where you can turn the confirmation off, and just Log Out, when one clicks “Log Out”.

Completely removing it (with no setting) is ok for me also, the log out link is small, it’s unlikely many people click it accidentally.

And if they do click it accidentally, there’s entry auto save to protect you, and if not, the one accidental click still doesn’t weigh against all the times you have to click twice for something simple as logging out.

The longer i’m using EE 2 the more this little countdown window annoys me, so please at least create a setting. :(

Super admin can’t login after upgrade to 2.2, email address-issue?
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192367/
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192367/#When:02:44:06Z

I’ve upgraded two sites to EE 2.2, one from 2.1.3 and the other from the 2.1.5 beta. Everything went smoothly. But when I tried to login, I got a yellow error-box above the login-form saying: “You are only permitted to make four login attempts every 1 minute(s)”.

I then tried to login as a different user, a Super admin too. And I got in. I deleted myself as a member, and added myself back, with the same email address but different password. And I got the same error.

I logged in again as the second user, and changed my email address, and voila! I’m able to login no problem. So it looks like it’s my email address that’s the problem.

Any ideas?

Newbie Lic. Question
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192346/
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192346/#When:19:24:18Z

Hi all.
I have recently emerged from the dark ages of PHP4 and have discovered Codeigniter, EE and PyroCMS all of which I am very excited about and will be using EE and PyroCMS on several projects I have lined up to start on next week.

Right now, I would like to understand more clearly how I can purchase, develop, deliver and maintain EE based sites.

I am accustomed to preparing my client’s sites on my local dev/test server prior to uploading to my production server. Thus I have a copy of that site available on my local dev/test server should I need to make changes or develop new functionality.

My question is: Can I still continue in this way when I develop EE based sites or am I required to buy individual licenses for my dev/test server for each client ?

Many thanks.

Dynamic filtering on a relationship field
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192231/
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192231/#When:21:15:35Z

okay, I think I’m close but this just isn’t *quite* working.

I’ve got a dropdown menu of state names, when selecting a state the form is submitted and I want to filter restaurants by state. the states in the dropdown are a separate channel cuz that’s the only way I could figure out to populate the menu dynamically.

the dropdown displays the states properly, the form submits on selection, the restaurants display properly, but the filtering itself isn’t happening (all restaurants are displayed). any ideas for me?

Update to 2.2, unable to log in to CP
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192239/
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192239/#When:23:11:11Z

I updated my site from 2.15 to 2.2 tonight. As far as I can tell, the update was successful. However, now I am unable to log in to the CP. Whenever I do, I get an error saying “You are only permitted to make four login attempts every 1 minute(s)”. I’ve tried resetting my password, to no avail. I had no such problems before updating.

Safecracker input Relationship value from hidden field
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192361/
https://expressionengine.com/forums/viewthread/192361/#When:01:27:20Z

I have magazines channel and pages channel.
Within pages fields I have the relationship field which is linked to the magazines.

Page 1
I have the page where I have all the the magazines, once clicked user goes into the page with all pages related to this magazine.

Page 2 All Pages
I managed to output all related pages through reversed relationship.
Now I have link which says add the page, and what I want to do is to pass some value which will be the value of the magazine, so I can insert using safecracker that magazine value to the relationship field of my new page. it will be set to hidden

Question : how to pass the magazine title so I can insert it into the relationship field.

Should I start passing from the Page 1 to the Page 2 and than to the ADD PAGE page or is it something which already available.

I run some tests and the question is what value should I record into the relationship field of the page is it ID or TITLE ?
