Public Activity
There is some usefulness in having an action-based class also in the defaults. This would allow common styling of similar actions or scoping of unobtrusive javascript. So for instance in the PostsController:
# => {:class => "index posts", :id => "posts-index"}
I'm open to changing it to this, but just to explain my reasoning for the current scheme: I like having a unique id.
In sass you can accomplish the same amount of DRYness like so:
body &#posts &-index color: redWhich generates:
body#posts-index { color: red; }

That said, you're going to start hitting this a lot, so you might want to upgrade rubygems in place with:
sudo gem update --system
I needed 1.3.6 back when compass was a prerelease gem, but I can probably relax the requirement now that it's a stable release.

Re: random thoughts:
- Agreed on the watcher. It's much faster.
- re: writing to disk on shut down, that's an nice optimization.
- re:middleware something is needed for better heroku support.
I get a lot of test failures without this change, but I'll poke around and see.
I think it's much better to store a string in memory than the hundreds or thousands of the objects that are contained within a Sass::Tree object. The small overhead is worth it to release the memory.
I'm not planning on allowing the key to be an opaque blob. We own the key generation and it has the constraint that it must be representable as a file name.
it's just the cache key... it doesn't have any meaning really. this name is for backwards compatibility if people have .sassc in their ignore files, etc.
this is directional. I want to give the store a key and I don't want the store to think about what it is. but it exists for creating a cache key not for accessing files so I don't think it belongs there. If/when we introduce path entries that are not directories, this would adapt for that.
I'm not super happy with this function either, but I don't know that moving it is the right answer.
I think that raise is left over from debugging, but I agree we should think thru a proper error handling strategy.
re: protected -- agreed.
re: the first comment - that was how I implemented it first and it took away a lot of the power from the implementing store. mostly because of what you realized in third comment. In fact I'm pretty sure I made a doc note that the implementing store may do such a thing if the version/sha changed.
So are you suggesting merging the version and sha into a single arg called checksum?
these are just defaults -- they're only modified once at boot time in a certain environment -- probably not the one using multiple compiler instances. But in any respect they don't change after boot. This just provides a way of overridding defaults: maybe you have a different/better way?
Sorry. That was unclear. I meant, is having the Configuration module as a separate file/module still necessary.
A Graph-Based Programming Language
like this:
%w(installer configuration_defaults app_integration).each do |f| require "staticmatic/compass/#{f}" endThen just make sure that the lib directory is on the load path for things like tests. rubygems will take care of that for you.
