Reactor Update
2011 is still a week away, but EllisLab and the CodeIgniter Reactor team have been busy nonetheless, putting the previously announced plans into effect.
Two weeks ago, the Reactor team and nearly everyone on EllisLab staff participated in a conference call that determined the goals and mechanics for the new community branch of CodeIgniter.
First and foremost, they outlined the overarching philosophy of development that will help drive features and enhancements while highlighting CodeIgniter’s strengths and keeping it true to its roots. That core philosophy is simply stated:
Provide power and speed through simple and elegant tools with a low barrier of entry, a very small footprint, and comprehensive documentation.
This mission statement will be the litmus test that the Reactor Engineers use as they help guide the course of the framework.
On this call they also determined what methods they would use for organizing their development work (SCRUM light), and what tools would be used to aid in collaboration (internal mailing list, UserVoice, BitBucket, and Jira).
While the holidays mean that work on major changes will not likely begin until further into the first quarter of 2011, we plan on making the CodeIgniter Reactor repository public in early January. There will be some enhancements and bug fixes ready to go immediately, as the Reactor Engineers and EllisLab developers have already been pushing changesets as their personal time permits.
So, we are happy to formally introduce to you the CodeIgniter Reactor team:

Lastly, we would like to give a fond farewell to Kenny Meyers, whose early input helped shape this program, but sadly had to depart due to employment obligations.
