I think pure language features that are just missing can be safely implemented so we don't have to refactor the code later when we phase out support for older versions of mobile browsers. It's worth the non-exisiting risk of breaking anything... :)
Comparisions with
void 0are both shorter and faster. Declaring a localundefis probably about the same speed.
Why not implement missing language features directly? I don't see any scenario where augmenting String.prototype with a feature that is provided by later versions of the language would break anything.
