Ajax IM
instant messaging framework
Ajax IM is an open-source, extensible, theme-able instant messaging framework.
Oh, and did I mention that it’s also free,
multi-lingual, and a breeze to install?
What is Ajax IM?
Ajax IM (“Ajax Instant Messenger”) is a browser-centric instant messaging framework. It uses AJAX to create a real-time (or near real-time) IM environment that can be used in conjunction with existing community and commercial software, or simply as a stand-alone product.
Licensing
Ajax IM is licensed under the open source MIT license.

Old Versions
Where did the old Ajax IM go?!
Don't worry, they've just been moved to the old website. (Of course, it is recommended you use the latest version instead!)

New Community!
September 18th, 2010
The community has been moved from forums.ajaxim.com to a Google group. This should be a more stable and friendlier environment for Ajax IM support.
Additionally, for those of you who are having trouble with 4.0a, please see the Ajax IM GitHub repository for the latest version. The current code, which will eventually be 4.0 beta 1, eliminates the need for PHP.

All the good stuff below the cut.

It has arrived!
February 14th, 2010
After a (very) long wait, and many hours of development, I’m proud to announce the new Ajax IM 4.0!
Ajax IM has been truly rebuilt from the bottom up, implementing the latest libraries, techniques, and shininess including jQuery, local session storage (using HTML5 or Flash), Node.js, and much more.
The new 4.0 has been specifically developed for integration into existing websites (unlike <=3.42), and works across pages — no matter how those pages are setup! Lots of documentation is available (and even more is in the works), allowing you to get started with Ajax IM right away.
