Reduced Support – Thanksgiving Holiday

Beginner Problems

paulhumber123 Posted: 18 November 2010 08:38 AM   [ Ignore ]   Summer Student Total Posts:  1 Joined  11-18-2010 Hi, I’m a free-lance graphic designer trained in print design but get a lot of web design jobs, which currently I design and then hand over to a programmer.  I have a very basic knowledge of HTML and CSS.  I purchased the commercial license to give it a go knowing that I can get my money back of if don’t like it but I seem to have fallen at the very first step! I cant seem to install it, localhosts, MySQL, PHP, are all things I am not farmiliar with.  I’m a fast learner if somebody is teaching me but trying to figure it out myself can be a nightmare.  Do you think this programme is beyond my capabilities? Are there courses or people willing to teach? because if i post on this forum everytime i have a question we’d all be here all week! Thanks, Paul Profile

First - support is included, and you are welcome to post for help. EE does require understanding of HTML and CSS in order to design your site, as well as comfort with FTP and very basic database setup so that you can install your site.  One option would be to host with EngineHosting.com, that includes the installation so you don’t need to know that information quite yet. I would also recommend checking out the learning resources on our community page.  Train-ee.com also offers classroom training which would help you get quickly up to speed with ExpressionEngine; but you will want to know web design basics as well so that you can design your site.
