Packt is pleased to announce Building Websites with ExpressionEngine 2, a new book that will help developers to manage ExpressionEngine websites, including features such as backups, restores, and version updates. As promised in the recent EE podcast, while a touch late, (insert standard EllisLab timing joke here har har har cough) here’s a roundup of the #eecms happenings from last week:
It’s no secret that the release of ExpressionEngine 2 revealed some limitations in our current Stand Alone Entry Form (SAEF). In large part, this is due to our new approach to custom fields and the resulting variety and potential complexity of new field types. Believe me, we are as frustrated with it as you are.
The current approach just isn’t cutting it and putting band-aids on the code isn’t a ‘fix’ we find acceptable. We also have to acknowledge that Add-ons have been...

So first off, ExpressionEngine 2.1.1 and 1.7 are security releases, and we recommend all users update as soon as possible. Special thanks to mklann and EBSCO Publishing for working with us to get these buttoned up.
The 2.1.1 release includes over 50 bug fixes. We’d like to thank each and every one of you for the thoughtful bug reports and feedback.
We’ve also added a number of long desired new features; notably, the Comment Module now has its own...
Next week we will be releasing (finally) ExpressionEngine 2.1.1 to you. It has a great deal of enhancements and bug fixes, as well as improved security. The full details will be found in the change log when it is released, but here are some highlights.
Improved version update notification, to indicate normal vs. high priority releases
show_empty= parameter of the Channel Categories tag is now ::drum roll:: channel specific!
I just finished talking with Doherty, Lisa, and Jones about how to have a real discussion with the community about the issues made public by Kenny. I say made public because the majority of them I am already well aware of. We’ve been working hard to correct a lot of them already.
Historically its no secret that we’ve been bad at communicating with the Community during times of growth and the stress that goes with it. That’s precisely why I hired Leslie Doherty. So,...
