ExpressionEngine Community ForumsCopyright (c) 2010ExpressionEnginetag:expressionengine.com,2010:11:16Initial and ongoing costs for an EE Solutiontag:expressionengine.com,2010:forums/viewthread/.1736762010-11-16T18:47:25Zideafrog
OK - I need to clarify some costs.
My objective is to provide a solution for a client that has a single domain yet six different entities and six different content managers. In one solution I assume I have a single EE installation and segment the content and managers by channel - thus only one license. (domain.com/org1, domain.com/org2)
EE- $299.95
The second solution is an installation for each subdomain (org1.domain.com, org2.domain.com) and purchase a Multisite Manager license and a license for each site:
EE - $299.95
MM - $149.95
Others - 5X$49.95
$749.65
Questions:
Is this the right solution for my objectives?
What is the ongoing maintenance (the cost to maintain support) in each version?
Thanks!

Hardware Store Licensetag:expressionengine.com,2010:forums/viewthread/.1650722010-08-20T20:11:44ZJose B
I just checked the prices for a commercial EE Licensse and Yikes!! I almost jumped out of my skin. I have a small mom and pop hardware store that wants a website. My apartment is small and is still bigger than their store. Now I can do a website without using EE, but like, what fool would want to do that?!!! When it is so much better using EE. Problem is that the commercial license is costly. And I thought I’d ask if there is a tier system according to store sizes (small medium and large)? I do not see him wanting to pay that much just for the CMS. Anyway I just want to know before giving him prices for the site.

MSM usagetag:expressionengine.com,2010:forums/viewthread/.1733812010-11-14T02:54:28ZRenegades
Hello to everyone on this forum, I am brand new here and still ignorant of many things.
Not sure if this question was raise before (could not find an answer) so if it was, forgive me please.
MSM! If we have a site built in EE and this site is large, we decide to move some parts of it into sub-domains. Would that mean we need to install MSM?
Thanks a lot

Change Password logging outtag:expressionengine.com,2010:forums/viewthread/.1736692010-11-16T17:37:07Zjcaingrunt
Is there a way to keep EE from logging out after changing your password? If so, how can I do that.
Thanks,

Does EE have an “approval chain”?tag:expressionengine.com,2010:forums/viewthread/.1736572010-11-16T16:00:06Zvcom
We purchased EE based on a demo from a 3rd party developer that showed us a “preview” page and routing functionality. However, I have not been able to find either.
“Preview” page - all I’ve found in the application is a “preview” button but all it shows is text. I can’t really see if the page is going to work, or how it’s going to look to the user. Does anyone know anything about this? I’ve been told this is custom development.
“Approval chain” - I have not been able to find a way that different users would be given certain pages to work on then once it’s done, send it to the person who has the capability to approve the changes and then publish it.
Thank you in advance.

Blogging in EE 2tag:expressionengine.com,2010:forums/viewthread/.1736602010-11-16T16:17:01ZDesignBloke
I’ve been told that the Control Panel interface on my EE site is not user-friendly enough. Two instances where they would like it to be more like Blogger are including images/captions in the story and previewing the story.
Does EE 2 offer any improvements (for the non-technical user) that would make it easier for our staff bloggers to post articles that look the way they intend?

multiple site managertag:expressionengine.com,2010:forums/viewthread/.1736062010-11-16T09:49:17Zbburwell
Hello,
A non-profit client of mine would like to integrate the content management of another piece of their organization into the EE CMS I recently built for them.
I’d like to use the multiple site manager to accomplish this (nifty tool by the way!), but am not sure which license I need to purchase on their behalf. The main website currently running on a non-commercial license of EE. The license number is 4652-3472-3243-3105. The website is https://www.826chi.org, a non-profit writing and tutoring center.
The tricky part is that the second site they’d like to integrate is for their online store that was setup to support the non-profit center (100% of the proceeds from the store are used to fund the operations of the writing / tutoring center). The reason I’m writing is that while the all the profits of the store (https://notasecretagentstore.com/) are given to 826, the store itself is a technically registered as a for-profit venture.
Obviously, we’d like to be able to purchase the non-commercial license, but I want to make sure we’re in full compliance with your license requirements. I’m also not sure if it’s technically possible to install a commercial version of the MSM on a non-commercial based core original/core license.
Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated.

Photo Gallery Converter for upgrade to 2.xtag:expressionengine.com,2010:forums/viewthread/.1736322010-11-16T13:10:26ZTim Smith
There a several references on the forum to an upcoming conversion tool to migrate entries using the 1.6.x photo gallery to 2.x channels. These seem to have mostly been made during the beta phase of 2.0
a) Is such a tool now available, and if not is it still planned and within what kind of timescale?
b) If there is no such tool, is the recommendation not to upgrade sites that used the Photo Gallery module (see 2.0 release notes) still in force?
c) If there is no such tool, are there any third party tools that provide an upgrade path?

Which EE for one server ip with 30+ domains?tag:expressionengine.com,2010:forums/viewthread/.1735412010-11-15T17:12:21ZMacLeod62
Hi
I am redesign all my domains, were i have put a website on.
I own 30+ domains, some are redirected to one domain and some are standalone.
All domains are placed on my own private server, with 1 ipadress. It looks like this, https://www.mydomain1.com,www.mydomain2.com,www.mydomain3.com etc. All with there own dns structure (ns1,ns2) etc.I use it for my personall use, some are a blog. On one domain i put info about my work as freelancer.
I am thinking to design website’s for other people/companies, and host them on my own server.
What can you give me for advise? And the totall costs?
Can i get a demo somewere, to see how it works?
Ofcourse i would like to now if i can resell it
Thanks,
Leo aka MacLeod

Multi-Language site setup and licensingtag:expressionengine.com,2010:forums/viewthread/.1733842010-11-14T03:55:49Z2010-11-14T04:17:40ZRenegades
I followed a few threads in this forum but am still confused about how to best tackle this issue.
Ultimately, we think of setting up sup-domains for each language, hence the domains should go like; (I put the urls into brackets to avoid turning them into dead links) [https://en.mydomain.com/page] [https://fr.mydomain.com/page] [https://es.mydomain.com/page] ... etc
I always read, however a strange path name like [https://www.domain.com/fr/index.php/template_group/template/]
Q1:
why this long path /index.php/template_group/template/ before even getting to the page? Search Engines will certainly not like this! Can that be avoided, can the string /index.php/template_group/template/be eliminated and how?
Q2:
if we have already a subdomain for something else, lets say for a job-board and the URL will go like; [https://careers.mydomain.com/]
this would be okay as long this career sub-domainn is in English only, but how about if this is now in another language, can it go like; [https://fr.career.mydomain.com/page] [https://es.career.mydomain.com/page] ... etc
Forgot:
Q3:
would we need to purchase MSM for the purpose of splitting the actual site into many sub-domains - and - would this be a good idea anyway?
Thanks a lot again
BTW: did you notice, changing a font color in here needs you to always reset the color to “color” before you can chose another word/phrase and apply the same color!? or is this only my browser?
