Get the Most from the Pro Network
If you've never contacted a web professional for development services, here are a few tips to help out.
Start by downloading the Project Survey. This is a good way to get a handle on the scope of your project. Don't worry about filling it out completely, just do as much as you can.
Web Professionals often get a number of job requests on a daily basis, most of them poorly written by people who have not taken the time to understand what they are asking for. Professionals still respond to these emails but you have an opportunity to stand out by making your request a work of brevity.
Your email should be long enough to convey what you'd like done, what you expect, when you expect it, and your Project Survey. Being clear and concise is a good way to make a solid first impression. It should also have your name. You'd be amazed at how many people will send an email and not include a name.
Finally, it's important to know that Teams can be booked 2-3 months in advance due to the typical business cycle for web work. If you need work done "next week" you may have a hard time finding someone. It's not impossible, but last minute work can be difficult to secure. In that scenario you may have a better chance with the ExpressionEngine Job Board.
Please note that asking for free or underpaid work in exchange for a reward at a later date is called Speculative Work (spec work) and is not a standard business practice among professional designers and developers. If a person is identified as having spammed our Network or found aggressively pushing spec work, that person will be permanently banned from all EllisLab Network sites.
