Help! ExpressionEngine keeps logging me out.

I’m being asked to log in with a remarkable frequency. Sometimes I am asked to log in right after logging in and clicking a single link. I lose all my data and I lose my path in the navigation. Has anybody else seen this? How do I make it stop?

Check Security and Session preferences in the Admin tab. look for session timeout

And there we go! Bizarre: It had been set to one minute.
EDIT: Erm, spoke too soon. That was lockout. There is no Session Time Out.

Unless I’m very much mistaken the only timeout setting in the Security and Session Preferences is one which would stop you from logging in if say you have a hacker on the site and the site won’t allow them to attempt to login again for that amount of time.
Sounds to me more like you are being logged out even with the correct password though so you might try setting both the Control Panel Session Type and User Session Type to Cookies only and hopefully that might help a bit.

Ugh. Now it doesn’t log me out, but it redirects me to the home page without comment (and without submitting my last action). So it’s a step forward, but a measly one.
Furthermore, now I’m getting this error:
“You don’t have permission to access /system/index.php on this server.”
How the hell would ExpressionEngine decide this for me?
