If you are a developer interested in being part of the community which implemented the first compatible Java EE 5 application server, then Project GlassFish is the right place for you.

People in the GlassFish Community are encouraged to register into a self-maintained People's Page at our Wiki. We also have slightly nicer-looking page that we use to spotlight developers and that we intend to keep expanding.

Understand the code

Developing an application server is a big deal. Below are the links that help us organize the development of a project of this size.

• GlassFish project is divided into modules
  
• Read javadocs that are updated with each promoted build
• Talk to other GlassFish developers about the implementation details on our mailing lists. Be sure to login to see all available mailing lists.
• Check the list of the module owners

Build it

GlassFish build infrastructure uses maven and ant. Currently we are looking for developers to help improve the build infrastructure to be less dependent on ant.

Test It

There are several different tests that are currently available in GlassFish.  QuickLook tests run in a short time and cover a broad set of features in the app server. Developer tests are also available for the different modules. Each module has more information about running those tests.

Contribute code

Contributing to project GlassFish can be done in various ways: bug fixes, enhancements, new features, or even whole modules.

• All contributors must sign and return a Contributor Agreement
• See the governance policy for more information on roles and responsibilities
• All code checked into the workspace must follow the coding conventions
• If you don't have yet  developer role, see theprocess for providing a patch
• Developers need to follow commit procedures when updating the workspace

We welcome good quality samples that demonstrate a feature or aspect of GlassFish or Java EE 5 technology. Join the GlassFish Samples Project and see your contributions making a difference.

Documentation

Part of producing an quality product is the supporting documentation.  Drafts of several books in the documentation set are now available for review.
