Good idea of course, to use Tweetburner’s short url code ‘Twurl’ to monitor the attention your ad gets.

Great thinking, however, when you put a Twurl in your print ad. In this way, all those ‘way to long’ links do not fog your message and you can get insight if your audience actually can be triggered to go online for your specific ad.

With the current state of affairs we thought it would be a good idea to address the “Your stats” page issues, especially since we’ve been getting a lot of responses to the fact that we had to disable the page momentarily.

The main reason for disabling the page is that is was putting too much strain on the service as a whole. We tried quick-fixing it, but it didn’t work. So rather then letting the service go on at half capacity for an unknown period of time, we decided to freeze the “your stats” activity and let the rest of the service go on a little lighter on it’s feet.

At the moment we’re re-writing the entire page, so that when it’ll be back: it’ll really be back. You want it back: we want it back and we will make it so. Thank you for your patience, we’ll get this show on the road very soon.

In the world of social networking the diversity is pretty much the same as in the physical world. It being the target audiences or the way that the social networks are being used. So by that rational: in order to make a social service successful you need a diverse group of people.

The new Tweetburner team is made up of a diverse group of people with this idea in mind. We believe that to let a service improve and evolve you need many different sets of eyes and opinions. So for starters we got ourselves a marketeer, a business developer, a programmer and a designer.

With their combined skills we believe we can make Tweetburner an even better service and give it the attention it deserves. This being said: there will be a lot of attention to user feedback. Since it’s the users that made the service great, it’s the users that deserve a lot of attention.

As we’ve pointed out in one of our latest blogpost, we decided Tweetburner needed a team that is more focused on bringing it to the next level. As you might know we found a good team and after today they are in charge of Tweetburner.

It’s been a wild ride. We started Tweetburner to test an idea. We never expected it to take of this fast. It became part of the decision to start Firmhouse, where Michiel and I focus on bringing Internet ideas and concepts to the market. A lot of what we are doing there today, is a result of our experience building Tweetburner.

We would like to take this moment to thank some important people.

One of our first users was Erwin Blom. He has been promoting Tweetburner actively and even gave us the honour of having the very first presentation at Beer & Innovation. Martijn Bakker who provided a new server, over night, when we got blogged by Twitter and couldn’t handle the traffic on our old server. Also Michiel Berger and Gerard van Enk who provided feedback and helped out with technical problems during the creation of Tweetburner.

And not to forget all other users that provided inspiration, tips and feedback. You really kept us going.

This is the very first collective post of the Tweetburner team. We hope everybody had some well-deserved R&R and is fully replenished for the New Year.

2008 Will be remembered as a year of great accomplishments. Referring, of course, to Bob and Michiel creating Tweetburner. They saw, they developed, they rocked. Tweetburner has almost reached its four million Twurl mark. To see the service hit that mark is just really exciting for us.

To Bob and Michiel: Dudes, our hats are off to you. You created something and made it into a success within such a short amount of time: very impressive. We thank you for the initiative and we are all very excited to be on board.

Today is a big day for Tweetburner. We have some exciting news we want to share with you.

Tweetburner started out as a pet project and is now considered a serious shortlinking service. We are more and more aware that Tweetburner is not only a useful service but also becoming part of an important infrastructure. Therefore we think the service deserves more attention and time to create more reliability.

A few weeks ago Michiel and I decided to focus on the future and find a team that could take care of this little bird. During our search we had a couple of good conversations with Crosspring. After these conversations it became apparent that Crosspring had the right spirit and energy to learn this bird how to fly.

Four new team members will join Tweetburner. With their combined skills they will give it their all, to make sure that the service you’ve come to know and love, will be sustained and improved.

In the past two weeks Tweetburner had some performance issues. We’ve been looking into the problem and found the cause today. Due to an update to the Ruby on Rails framework, there have been some changes to default settings. One of the new settings didn’t operate in the correct way, which caused slowness in the application.

Right now we are making some last tweaks to the frontpage to get everything on speed again.

The popularity of Tweetburner is still rising. Apparently spammers now find our service useful to track clicks on the links in their spam e-mails. We’ve received several alerts about spam e-mails containing twurl.nl shortlinks. When we receive an alert we’ll remove the shortlinks associated to spam from our database as soon as possible.
