Adding your phone number to Twitter

Did you know: if you send Twitter a text message from your phone, it
will post to your profile and go out to all of your followers? Adding
your phone to Twitter makes it easy to update your Twitter account from
anywhere! Add your phone
number to Twitter in your device settings page.
Once
you've added your phone number, we'll give you a verification code. Send the code in
a text message to Twitter to connect your phone to your account. If you refresh the page and your code is gone, your phone is verified. Try sending Twitter a tweet! To get tweets from others, make sure you visit the profile pages of people you follow, and turn text updates ON in the following drop down box. Send ON to Twitter, and check out these other phone commands to see how to turn texts on and off per person.
To verify your phone, follow these steps:
- Log in to Twitter
- In the upper right hand navigation bar, click Settings
- Click the third settings tab, Devices
- Add your phone number number, with country code first (+1 is the US
country code; a US phone number would look like this: +14153368687)
- Wait for the verification code to pop up
- Text the verification code to Twitter using the number given in the devices page. US residents should always see 40404- if you see another number, you might've added the number in the wrong format.
Be sure to check with your provider to make sure text messages are covered in your phone's service plan; Twitter doesn't charge you but your carrier might, so make sure you double check to avoid a big bill.
What are the Twitter phone numbers?
Send text message updates to Twitter using these numbers:
- US: 40404
- Canada: 21212
- UK, Vodafone subscribers only: 86444
- Germany: +49 17 6888 50505
- Sweden: +46 737 494222
- India: 5566511 (note: this short code is still in beta, so if you can't use it, try our international number below.)
- All other countries: +44 762 4801423
Folks using international numbers: once your phone is verified,
you'll be able to send but not receive updates from Twitter. Find out more on the
Twitter Blog. Note: these numbers are for text only; you cannot call them.
For UK residents: some carriers don't charge
an international fee to send messages to the Twitter number within the
UK, but other carriers do. T-Mobile, for example, considers +44 762
4801423 an international number and charge rates varying from .15 to
.25 or more per message, even if you are using a carrier within the
UK. Remember to check your phone plan for international rates; be
aware that even in the UK, standard messaging rates vary by carrier,
and do apply.

If you post here, I recommend you indicate
- Your country and mobile provider
- The Twitter number (40404, 21212, +4...) you use for Twitter SMS text messaging
- Your Twitter username (as in https://twitter.com/username)
- Any error message(s) or other symptoms you see.
The message
- Note: We currently don't support sending SMS to this number.
- Mobile Phone: +YourNumber
indicates that your phone is correctly registered with Twitter - but, because you live outside the USA, you are limited to 1-way Twitter SMS text messaging, since Twitter currently delivers SMS text messages only to phones in the USA (that use 40404).
(If you see this message although you live within the USA, you have probably entered your number incorrectly, leading Twitter to believe that your phone is in some other country. In that case, click the Delete and start over? button and take care to enter your number in the exact format that Twitter expects.)
If nothing changes on your https://twitter.com/devices page when you've texted the verification code, try refreshing the page in your browser.
Some mobile carriers (e.g. Sprint / USA) are notorious for blocking SMS text messages to Twitter's number, which will prevent the verification code getting through. (In this special case, it's possible to contact Sprint via their Chat Forum, to have 40404 unblocked for your phone).

I just got it working from Germany with Simyo . :)
OK. I called Sprint and asked them why I was unable to text to ANY short code AND low and behold...just like magic...short code texting springs to life! Thank you Sprint! I take back all my nasty-ness...I am bull shit. :)

TIP FOR THOSE NOT ABLE TO TEXT UPDATES AFTER VERIFICATION:
Just thought I'd let you know... I'd had probs texting updates even though I'd verified the phone. It seems that my mob phone changed the twitter number +44.... to 0044... when I didn't save the number automatically and went into my phone contact list to change the 0044...back to +44.... it started to work and I'm in business!! Hope this helps some of you.
I never even got a verification code I also have AT&T; mobile.
*I did get a verifiction code - had to refresh the page, DUH, lol.
Now I'm wondering how I get my "tweets" to go to my LiveJournal page -
got the same prob. sent a cod but no joy. i wish i could find the solution to this...
Just to let you all know, i saved the twitter number to my orange contract phone in the format +44 and not the 0 prefix, just tested it and it worked like a charm, dont know if im going to be charged for the texts yet tho, hope this helps....
These template replies to your problem are insulting and useless. I ALREADY TRIED the trouble shooting tips. If they had worked, I wouldn't be asking for help!!!!!
I was twittering for months, but all of a sudden, I can't send or receive messages. Other short codes work, but not 40404. I signed up on twitter to update from my phone. It's useless to me now!

I Just got a twitter account and for some reason it won't let me add my phone number. I live in the US and im putting the +1 and then my phone number, but it keeps giving me an error code D1051. Which idk what to do because nowhere on here has that error been addressed. Please help.
I can't get twitter to accept my phone number. I have an iPhone and it accepts the short numbers. I did the google check. Twitter won't give me a verification code. It also will not show the photo I uploaded.

i typed in the wrong number by accident then tried to change it and it gave me D1051.
I just verified my ATT phone. It did not show me the verification code until I refreshed the page. For those having this problem try that and see if it works for you.
