FAQ
Once signed up, how do I get support?
All customers including those with a free/tiny plan are eligible for free support. Either email support@zendesk.com or visit our support portal at https://support.zendesk.com/portal. We strive to solve all support requests within eight business hours (CET, Central European Time).
How do I provide feedback?
Feel free to email us at contact@zendesk.com anytime. Service related announcements are published in our support portal that also offer forums for bug reports and feature requests.
What is a help desk?
In general, a help desk is where your end-users go to for support, when they can't solve an issue themselves or through the help of others. Working with a professional-grade system gives your customers a comforting service experience, and it allows you to monitor and improve your support services while being able to capitalize on the end-user feedback to further improve your products and services.
In IT lingo the help desk (or Service Desk in ITIL terms) is the Single Point of Contact for all communication between the IT users and the IT department. A help desk system provides IT with work flow that supports the process of providing structured service and support to the end-users.
How is Zendesk different from e.g. Salesforce or Highrise?
Zendesk is a professional-grade help desk system. It has been designed using ITIL best practices and is in every possible way geared towards providing support and service. Not customer relationship management, bug tracking or project management. Zendesk is the just-right solution for end-user support. We are sure that Zendesk can be used in many creative ways, but it has been designed with end-user support in mind.
How can I customize Zendesk?
Zendesk provides a comprehensive API allowing developers to extend Zendesk with widgets and hook into Zendesk and connect it to third-party applications. It is implemented as plain XML or JSON over HTTP using REST. Due to its nature the API is accessible via any platform and scripting language. Furthermore all accounts have various methods to customize logos, messages and various look-and-feel elements.
Does Zendesk provide e-mail integration?
Yes, in every plan. Both inbound and outbound. When you sign up for a Zendesk account, an e-mail account is automatically created with the address: support@accountname.zendesk.com. You can reconfigure Zendesk to use an e-mail address in your own domain.
Which browser platforms are supported?
We are continuously testing on Internet Explorer (v6 & v7) for PC, Firefox (v2 & v3) for both PC and Mac, and Safari (v3) for Mac. We recommend Firefox 3.
Do I need to provide my credit card details for a free trial period?
No you don't. But if you don't submit your card details before the end of the 30-day free trial, we will downgrade your plan to our tiny free plan. This will have some consequences with regard to data loss. But you will be able to regain that data if you decide to re-upgrade at a later point in time.
How safe are my data?
Only you and the people you provide authorized access to can see your help desk data. We do not provide any third party access to any information unless required to by Law. We refer to our Privacy Policy. You may have all your help desk traffic encrypted using SSL (see plans). Furthermore you can at any time export all of your data, either in Excel-compatible CSV format or as XML using REST.
Where is Zendesk hosted?
Zendesk is hosted by Engine Yard who manages the hosting facility and full 24x7 operational monitoring and systems administration services. Engine Yard is the industry's preferred Rails-focused hosting and operations support center and offers amongst other things:
- Qwest & UUNet bandwidth
- Tier 4, Class A data center
- SAS 70 certified for sensitive data
- On-site power generation with 100% uptime since 2001
What kind of downtime can I expect?
Pre-designated maintenance will be targeted for weekends. Mid-day European time, early morning US time, and late-evening Australia and East-asia time.
