Introductionjava-synaptics is a library which gives Java developers direct access to Synaptics TouchPads and other Synaptics human interface devices. java-synaptics is currently at release 0.1, the initial release, and can be considered beta-quality. java-synaptics requires Java 5.0 or higher. The project currently only supports the Windows platform. If all goes well, versions for Mac OS X and Linux will be developed later on. DemoA java-synaptics demo is available for Windows users. Of course, it only works if you have a Synaptics device (such as a laptop touchpad) on your computer. The demo may not work for users without Visual Studio.NET installed on their system. This bug will be fixed soon, when the developers figure out how to stop Visual Studio from silently adding dependencies on its runtime libraries. The demo requires the latest Synaptics Drivers from Synaptics. The demo also requires Java 5.0. Most modern laptop touchpads are Synaptics touchpads. Synaptics touchpads are present in many laptops from Acer, Compaq, Dell, eMachines, Fujitsu, Gateway, Hewlett Packard, Hitachi, IBM, NEC, Panasonic, Samsung, Siemens, Sony, and Toshiba. If you don't know whether you have a Synaptics TouchPad or TrackPoint, try installing the drivers above and/or running the demonstration. ReleasesThe initial release of java-synaptics, version 0.1, was on September 23.
