MySQL Job Opportunities
MySQL is the world's most popular open source database software. Many of the world's largest organizations, including Yahoo!, Alcatel, The Associated Press, Suzuki and NASA rely on MySQL for their critical business applications.
The corporate culture at Sun is very special. We care about customers, about each other and about innovation. We want our employees to work well together, make bold decisions and to move fast. We believe that The Network is the Computer. The meaning of our work is to provide the global online economy with the infrastructure it needs - in the form of hardware, software, services, and more recently cloud computing. We love building systems that scale. We believe that Innovation Happens Elsewhere, and by making our products open we invite the whole world to innovate with us.

In hiring people we look for those who can make the most of this culture while at the same time not being afraid of challenging whatever parts of it they find obsolete. We are looking for passionate, skilled, globally minded thinkers and doers who themselves live and breath the online world we are serving. We are very much about technical innovation, but at the end of the day our goal is financial success for all involved. At Sun you can advance on your career as a domain expert or as a manager and leader.
The Database Group of Sun is a global distributed organization. About 70% of our employees work from home in 135 major locations in 35 countries across 18 timezones. We work, meet and collaborate online - and a few times a year we get together for in-person meetings across the globe.
MySQL is the only major database in the world that was developed specifically for the online world (all the rest were designed before the internet was invented and created). We agree with Antoine de Saint-Exupery (aviation engineer and author of The Little Prince) who said: "Perfection in design is not achieved when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing more to remove." and so we develop MySQL in accordance with three (and only three) priorities:
- Reliability
- Performance
- Ease of deployment
The Database Group is a global, outspoken bunch. We believe in openness, but also in clearly defined responsibilities. We debate a lot. And we make a lot happen. When someone has done something little beyond the ordinary or walked the extra mile, we highlight it with a "can-do nomination" which is published to everyone. We have a combined ambition of being the world's leading open source database and building the most successful open source business. Experimentation is close to our heart, and we experiment around technology, business models, marketing and so on. The whole planet is going online, and we want to be the database of choice for all online applications and services.
The name of our dolphin is Sakila. And why did we choose a dolphin as our mascot? Because dolphings are fast, intelligent and kind - and in groups they kill sharks.
If you are one of us, please send in your job application! And if you know of someone else who is, please encourage the person to get in touch with us.
