Day 1 - Sun Tech Days - Boston, MA: The 2007/2008 Sun Tech Days season kicked off today in Boston, MA and even though the event is much smaller in scale than JavaOne, it still had the same atmosphere: People wandering around from booth to booth with giant backpacks and huge id badges trying to figure out where to go next!

JCP 2007 Elections Start Soon
The JCP Program Office recently sent out an e-mail reminding JCP members to ensure their contact information is correct, as the 2007 JCP EC Elections get underway soon. All JCP program member primary contacts will be sent their voting PIN for the first phase of the Elections in early October. Voting for ratified seats will be held from October 2-15, followed by nominations for elected seats from October 16-26, and voting for those seats held October 30 - November 12.
Etching Project
The Robotics Community's Etching Project takes an image and turns it into a vector list for an outline drawing. It was originally used to drive the ABB robot demo at JavaOne 2007. The IRB 340 robot used for the etching demo is the fastest in its class with 10G acceleration and 150 pick cycles per minute.

Nimbus almost done
Jasper Potts has an update on the Nimbus look-and-feel in Nimbus almost done. "Finally we are almost done with Nimbus and I am very pleased with the way it looks. There are many small details that need to be pollished and a couple of big ones like tabs but they will all be done by the time it gets released. I thought it might be time to tease you with some screenshots and details to keep you hungry." Nimbus' notable features include the fact that it is rendered entirely with 2D vector graphics and fits in a 56 KB JAR file. It's therefore very appropriate for high-DPI displays, and is heavily customizable as well.
