Java LDAP Client API Project
This project intends to define a pure Java client API that may be used to communicate with LDAP directory servers. It will host all of the project content (source repository, mailing lists, issue tracker, etc.) for the upcoming Java Specification Request (JSR) for the Java LDAP Client API.This specification will provide a simple, intuitive, and extensible interface for developing LDAP client applications. It will include support for a number of common extensions, as well as a convenient means of developing new extensions. It will also provide functionality that may not be directly required for LDAP protocol communication but are often needed in LDAP clients, like support for the LDAP data interchange format (LDIF).
We intend to dual-license all materials associated with this project under the Apache License, version 2.0, and the GNU General Public License, version 2.
The specifiation lead for this JSR is Neil Wilson. The initial expert group for this project includes:
- The Apache Directory Project
- Sun Microsystems, Inc.
- Howard Chu
- David Gadbois
- Mark Wahl
- The JSR proposal that we intend to submit.
- Project Development Conventions
- RFC 4510, which provides the LDAPv3 technical specification.
- RFC 4511, which provides the LDAPv3 protocol specification.
- draft-ietf-ldapext-ldap-java-api, which is an IETF draft containing a proposed Java LDAP API.
- draft-ietf-ldapext-ldap-java-api-asynch-ext, which is an IETF draft containing a proposed asynchronous extension for the proposed Java LDAP API.
