DocWeb is a set of servlets that are essentially equivalent to the JavaDoc tool that is distributed
with the JDK. The key difference is that it is designed to be internationalized cooperatively by the community.
Take a look at
the current prototype.
When you are looking at a documentation page you will see two drop-down lists near the top-right corner
of the page. The first selects the language that you want to see the documentation in. The second indicates
the activity that you are engaged in. There are four activities:
| Read | Reading the documentation. The "details" buttons expand the documentation in each section.
There is a 'Show all' button near the top of the page that expands (or contracts) all of the details
sections.
If you are reading in a language other than English, a small button will appear to the right of each
text fragment. The button will be colored green if a translation of the text exists in the database.
It will be red if the text has not yet been translated. If you press one of these buttons, you will
be shown a page containing all of the translations of this text fragment. Here you can vote for your
favorite.
|
|
| Print | Presents the documentation in a plain form without any buttons - suitable for printing.
|
| Vote | Similar to 'Read', except that each text fragment is also followed by a pair of thumbs up and
thumbs down buttons. Click thumbs up if you like the translation, down if you don't. When there are
multiple translations of a piece of text, the one that is normally presented is the one with the most
favorable votes.
|
| Translate | Use this if you want to help translate the documentation:
Each text fragment will be followed by textarea into which you can type your
translation of that fragment. You don't have to do them all. Just do the ones
that you have time for. When you're done, click the "Submit Translations" button.
|
In order to translate or vote, you have to be
logged in. The login page will also allow you
to register if you have not already done so. Right now the registration system on this site
is seperate from the rest of the Sun Developer Network: this is a bug, single-sign-on will be
implemented soon.
All of the sources for this website are available online at
docweb.dev.java.net and are licensed under the
