The ODIX project encompasses the results of various research work done by students of the University of Marburg, the University of Siegen and me, a phd student at Fraunhofer Institute, Germany. We have set up a project home page at
https://crossware.org. There, you find more information about the project and can launch the ODIX Internet Application Workbench via Java Web Start. We like to share the software and invite other developers to use and extend the workbench with custom and legacy Java desktop applications. It would be great to have a link to this project on dev.java.net and make it public to an interesting community.
The On Demand Computing System (ODIX) represents a self-managing cross-platform application system which enables the spontaneous deployment and launching of Java applications in the Internet. The core system is written in Java and supports the use in a server, in a desktop and in a pure terminal environment; hence desktop-less, desktop-based and shell-based interface. ODIX supports multi-user and multi-tasking operation in a single JVM and synchronizes user profiles across distinct computing nodes; providing the illusion of a pervasive application environment to nomadic users.
A RCP-based Internet Application Workbench provides pervasive access to legacy and custom applications via a desktop-like user interface.
