Welcome to CoolDesktopShare!
CoolDesktopShare is a plugin for the CoolCollaborator Client and Server that allows active logged-in users of CoolCollaborator to use TightVnc desktop-sharing application to easily invite others to view your desktop without the invited users needing to know your connection parameters (hostname, port, or password). This plugin has cross-platform capability, and just like CoolCollaborator, is fun and easy to use.
This software is licensed by the GNU General Public License (GPL). If you are not familiar with this license, please review it here.
What software is required to use it?
To use CoolDesktopShare, you need the following software installed:
- Download and install the TightVnc server application on your machine. You do not need to install the TightVnc client.
- CoolCollaborator Client v2.1 on your machine and on the target CoolCollaborator Server v2.1 that you connect and login to.
- CoolDesktopShare v1.0 plugin. You can get this from the "Documents and files" link on this webpage.
- Users that you will invite to view your desktop will also need this plugin installed on their CoolCollaborator client application.
How to install it
- CoolDesktopShare is installed as a plugin, so place the plugin jar file in the "plugin" directory of your client and server installation (please be sure that the "jar" command is in your system path) or use Winzip or other unzip tool to open the file and extract the contents directly from the "plugin" directory..
- TightVnc Server has its own installation procedure, just follow the directions they provide you.
How to use it
- First thing to do is start your TightVnc server on your machine.
- Login with CoolCollaborator client. CoolDesktopShare is accessed from the Tools Menu. The second thing to do is to enter your connection parameters in the Registration Window. The hostname, port and password must be the same values as your TightVnc server. Save the data by pressing the Register button. Note: The hostname, port and password settings are not sent to the server, they are only saved locally on your machine. However, these values are sent to a user that you invite to view your desktop. You can choose to have the application automatically register you as a desktop sharing user after login, saving you from always manually registering each time you login to your server.
- Now that you are ready to share your desktop, you can invite a single active user to view your desktop by choosing the user on the active user list (on the User tab on CoolCollaborator client application) and the pressing the "Share Desktop With User" button on the button panel on the User tab. That user will get an invite to view your desktop.
- You can also share your desktop with all users in a session/meeting by using the CoolDesktopShare -> "Share Desktop With All Users In Current Active Meeting/Session" menu item. Each user in the session will get an invitation to view your desktop.
How to get help if things don't work correctly
A good place to start first is to read the TightVnc documentation from their website. If you need help with the CoolDesktopShare plugin or think you may have found a bug or would like to provide other feedback on product use, please contact the CoolDesktopShare team.
