Like most medicinal chemists, my area of study in grad school was synthetic chemistry. I obtained my PhD in 1992 from the University of California at Berkeley, where I worked for Clayton Heathcock. From there I found a job at a large pharmaceutical company where I have been employed ever since. In that time I have had the oppurtunity to work in a number of fields, oncology, CNS and virology.
