hallo new peeps.
my profile and header are obscenely out of date, but I've had this thing for over twenty years so they kind of show who and what I was or have been and so on; looking back there's various gaps like the first Great Exodus where everyone fucked off to Dreamwidth, (though cross-platform posting used to work so there's some overlap) or back when twitter wasn't a toxic fascist hell-pit (which also used to cross-post here) and so on. I had/have a number of friend group filters, and ultimately friends-locked had to become the default; public posts like this one are rare and tagged as such, but if we're 'friends' and not just 'subscribed' you just need to be logged in to see the majority of this weird archive.
I check here daily but don't post much anymore. Trying to get back to it, if only to keep better track of things so I can remember *when* they happened.

The government has shut down the only lab that certified the safety and effectiveness of all masks and respirators sold in the US. You know, NIOSH ratings? That was what that lab did. The millions of Americans whose job hazards require them to use these things apparently don't matter, nevermind the rest of us.
Prices are already going up so RIGHT NOW is the time to stockpile as many as you feasibly can, N/KN95s are going to be all that stands between you and measles, bacterial meningitis, whooping cough (I lived through that, but only just. -20/10 Do not recommend.), tuberculosis and everything else that's about to come swarming back in the next 4 years or more.
(Nevermind how toxic the air's about to become again in general...)
eBay is one source for known quality brand name masks in bulk, people are still selling off enormous stockpiles from five years ago but check prices against retail before you buy. I just scored a box of 50 for $34 less than Home Depot is currently charging for the same thing, but Amazon has them for cheaper if you use them (I don't.). Doesn't matter how you get them but the time is now for this, people are only just starting to realize.
Beat the price gouging and the rush. As many as you can financially manage. NOW.
Cloth isn't going to cut it, and nothing you buy manufactured in the future will be tested or proved functional at all. Counterfeits were another thing that lab sniffed out and stopped, especially while the gov't was pretending to take COVID seriously. Nothing to stop that now.
