Rebounding from a Job Loss After Injury
Stem client Frank Van Dyke has a new website, and with it, a new blog. One of the first posts is on how to respond to a job loss when you've been in an accident.
Injury law blogging is tough to do well. Lots of lawyers finish their posts with an "injured? call now!" approach, rather than trying to be helpful.

DUI Case Involving Driver trying to Save Dying Cat
Ron Chapman has an interesting post up on a DUI conviction where the driver was rushing a dying cat to the vet-hospital. While the driver was convicted under Florida DUI laws, he might not have been if it was a person involved.

Google Alerts: Still Broken
Danny Sullivan at Search Engine Land writes that Google Alerts is still not working properly, despite Google assuring him they're working on it. At Slaw.ca, Omar Ha-Redeye has noticed the same, and wonders if Alerts is next on the chopping block, after Google announced they were pulling the plug on Reader earlier this month.
Alerts and Reader are two products that virtually every library person I know uses. It'll be interesting to see what people come up with to replace them. As Sullivan suggests, maybe this is an opportunity for Bing to step in?

Deep Web Research 2012
Marcus Zillman's annual deep/invisible web research report is now available on LLRX. The report includes an impressive number of articles on the deep web, and an extensive list of search engines (including verticals) and tools for locating this content, which never get indexed by any of the big search engines.
"The Deep Web covers somewhere in the vicinity of 1 trillion plus pages of information located through the world wide web in various files and formats that the current search engines on the Internet either cannot find or have difficulty accessing. The current search engines find hundreds of billions of pages at the present time of this writing."

The G+ spot
via Nicholas Carr: "Google+ skews pretty heavily to the publishing side. Its early core membership seems dominated by what might be called the new media axis - a combination of techies and media types who love to talk shop. These folks aren't generally too keen on Facebook (too conversational, too intrusive, too untrustworthy), and while they tend to be heavy Twitter users, many of them have become frustrated by Twitter's limitations.
