Unfinished tasks! In my life, there have been so many. How about yours? Sometimes it has been not preparing enough for studies, or something as simple as a sink full of dishes that didn’t get done or an unwashed car put off till it was so cold it had to wait for warmer weather. There are constant reminders of unfinished tasks in our lives but most are not a matter of life or death.
Yet if we are disciples of Jesus Christ we do have one great unfinished task and it is a matter of life and death! It is a task that we have been called to. It is to go to all the world and share the good news that Jesus Christ is Lord! Recently this commission was reinforced when recording artists Keith and Kristen Getty rewrote the song “A Task Unfinished” .
Sunday, February 21 there is a world wide invitation for believers to join together and sing the new arrangement and be reminded that no matter what is happening in our lives and in the world we have one great unfinished task; to share the Good News! The Getty’s are introducing this new song at www.gettymusic.com. To facilitate this clarion call they are making available the printed sheet music, PPT’s, videos, and other media free to churches.
I encourage all churches to sing this song on Sunday. The tune is “The Churches One Foundation” and it has a new chorus added so it will not be daunting to teach this song. Let’s join together and encourage each other to be true disciples.
The apostle Paul wrote to us in Ephesians 5:17-20
“Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Speak to one another in song and encourage each other to complete our calling!
For those of us that the Lord has called to remain in the United States, there are 350 unreached people groups that our God has brought to us as refugees, immigrants, or international students. Let’s be faithful and find a way to reach them!
