Waffle when alone
May 30, 2011 — ZoéLunch
–Quick broccoli salad (chilli pepper, olive, broccoli)
–Waffles
–Tofu Chantilly
-Cherries
Sunshine. The dresses are popping out. Streets are full with bare legs. Female or male (picture the males with shorts not skirts, mean no offence to Scotland though). I’m resting in the garden under the shade of a fig tree. I’m treating myself with a salad that Bear would hate: crunchy broccolis (he likes them all soggy) with pepper bells (I still can’t get him to eat that). As a dessert, I guess he wouldn’t say no to my waffles but I know he would sulk at the cherries. But, this is the perfect meal for me. Like an enormous Christmas present, I cherished each bite.
I’m used to making a full batch of waffles and freeze the leftovers. They are perfect when my bread monster has eaten up all the bread with none left for breakfast. I just reach for them in the freezer and toss them in the toaster. I even prefer them this way as they come out with a crispy coat.
But I have to check on Bear, though he usually isn’t so keen in dessert, he can eat them all up on a movie night with some sweet chestnut purée.
Hand made presents, kiwi and mint jelly
May 23, 2011 — ZoéBento
-Lens and rice
–Potato purée
–Kiwi and mint jelly
-Strawberries
My lonely evenings are quite full lately. Lots of Christmas projects, and clothes mending. A few buttons and a ribbon and the nightdress is ready for the midnight ball. Some drawings, birthday cards. And dolls awaking from surgery after a few stitches or a bath.
So only a quick bento could be done tonight. It is a little starchy but I should be eating a little more of proteins, the fruits are just a way to treat myself. I just have to keep in mind that tomorrow night I have to prepare a plate full of veggies to compensate!
Zoé’s birthday, mexican pancakes
May 16, 2011 — ZoéBirthday dinner
–Mexican pancakes (with corn flour)
–Tomato sauce with soya pellet
–Guacamole with white beans puréed added
-Raw cauliflower
-Lettuce
-Spicy sautéed courgette
-Aubergine ratatouille
Someday was my birthday. And the tradition is that the birthday-girl shouldn’t prepare the meal. So Bear is the Chef tonight. One of my favourite meal. A real pleasure. He’s really an amazing cook. Domi popped in off-the-cuff and joined the party. A big thank to both of you to have enlighten my day.
Love letter, leftover lunchbox
May 11, 2011 — ZoéBento
–Asparagus
–Hollandaise sauce
–Mint peas
-Courgette and potato sauté
–Lens and beans burger
-Rice
-Strawberries
Back to work as normal, a bento for lunch as being a vegetarian in France is not the easiest. Some courgette and potatoes sautés and some strawberries completed yesterday’s leftovers.
I should be more sedentary in the following months. Not sure Bear will though, so I’ll be the one staying in a lonely house filled with memories, laughs and teasing, scrabble games and chess defeats, decoration planning and wall banged down, plaster dust and paint smells, dug up garden and newly planted trees, all the things we only manage to do together and when one is not by our side we just lose the strength or ability to do.
Together, mint peas, hollandaise sauce and asparagus
May 9, 2011 — ZoéQuick evening meal
–Mint peas
–Hollandaise sauce
-Rice
–Lens and red beans burger
–Asparagus
After my trip to Chile I did a jump to Sweden while Bear was in Finland. Both home at last we treated ourselves with some asparagus highlighted with an hollandaise sauce. I added a lens and red bean burger as I really missed pulses in Chilean restaurants. Some rice with mint peas was the perfect match.
It’s such a pleasure to be together again.
