Well, I am suitably chagrined. That was a tad condescending and I apologise. Mr. Firth *is* very capable and I can watch him fine. I think what it is, as with many other actors, there’s always a sense of watching Colin Firth play character X. Instead of just watching character X. If I could offer an alternative, check out an actor called Paddy Considine.

Secondly, you mentioned “What A Girl Wants” and I thought, “Hmm, that sounds familiar”, and wouldn’t you know it, it had been on telly here this afternoon (Sunday). Colin was fine in it and it was fine as a lazy Sunday afternoon movie.

Sir Christopher was quite moving accepting his award. He’s 88 and a tad unsteady on his pins. His marvellous voice cracked with incipient emotion a couple of times and you knew this was a chap who was hugely proud of what he’s achieved and the profession he graces. A lovely man, a terrific actor and a well earned reward.
