Freedom is a funny thing. Too borrow and pervert an aphorism, freedom is like oxygen: most people don’t think about it until it’s missing. Think of me (and this article) as a canary in a coal mine. I only hope you’ll actually notice — and then do something about it.

Finding Followers on Twitter
November 1st, 2008 · 1 Comment
This isn’t something I’d normally write. Heck, I’m not even close to being an expert on Twitter, having only recently joined. But a friend asked a question, I wrote an email in response, and then realized two things: I had used up most of my morning writing time on that email, including doing some “mini” […]

My Last Sony Vaio
August 17th, 2007 · No Comments
I’ve been a Sony Vaio laptop user for something like six years or more now. Last week, I purchased the third — and last — Vaio I will ever own. Interestingly, I had no significant choice in making the purchase. And now that I’ve made it, I find my choices are even further limited. The […]

My Army Can Lick Your Army

In the future, the title of this article just might be true! According to a story on CNN, scientists have apparently been working on a new “tongue port” to the brain. For those who don’t know, “port” is a fairly common computer term for a connection point whereby information can be passed into a computer. […]

The Old Days
February 2nd, 2005 · No Comments
A couple of days ago, my wife and I watched Paul Newman in The Verdict. It’s a traditional requirement of law students, apparently, to watch the movie and pick out all the ethical violations. The obvious ones jumped out, but we were too distracted to note some of the more subtle contraventions to the American […]

Home Computing
November 23rd, 2004 · 2 Comments
Someone emailed me this image. The caption of this photo, which was apparently published in the 1954 edition of Popular Mechanics, reads: Scientists from the RAND Corporation have created this model to illustrate how a “home computer” could look like in the year 2004. However the needed technology will not be economically feasible for the […]
