What is this? Who are we?
Emily and Elizabeth have been friends since 1997. As ninth graders in New York City, they passed many a class period creating ill-drawn comic strips, mostly centering on their teachers being eaten by pterodactyls. Throughout high school, when they weren’t busy playing card games at their debate team “preparation meetings” or writing screeds on the internet about their undying love for My So-Called Life, they spent their after-school hours in Barnes and Noble’s children section. With periodic stops at the Ben & Jerry’s next door, of course.
Now in their late-20s, they still love games, ice cream, and MSCL. And most of all, books for children and teenagers. That’s what this blog is about.
Elizabeth is also the editor of IRAQIGIRL: DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL IN IRAQ, published by Haymarket Books.

Just a decade after my own MSCL infatuation, glad to see a site as insightful as this from two familiar names…when my daughters are old enough to read books like these (and hopefully not too long from now) I’m keeping this as a bookmark.

Hi Francis! How old are your daughters? We’ve got some posts on picture books and books for younger readers in addition to all the YA stuff. Hmm, maybe we should add categories for age ranges…would that be useful to folks?

I have read a lot of books that have been shown on this site. I’ve read the whole Twilight series this year and now I’m working on Sarah Dessen books.
I’ve read Just Listen, That Summer, Lock and Key, Along for the ride, In that order. And now, I’m working on Keeping the moon.
I think its really cool that you guys made a site for this.
Btw, I’m turning 12 this year. My mom thinks its weird how fast I read but yeah just thought I’d throw that in there 😛

Good for you for reading fast — I’m an abominably slow reader and it sucks. (Fortunately for me, I somewhat compensate by writing fast. And walking fast, but that’s another story.)

Have you checked out the new Teenage Vampire by Florence Wilson? This is written primarily for middle school/jr. high but I would bet that older readers will love it, too!
And the bonus is that the author (now 15) was only fourteen when she wrote it!
