We were so grateful to have found First. [The process facilitated] meaningful discussions about our marriage, just in time for the wedding itself. The process was easy (as easy as legalese can be!), quick, and affordable.

Process was easy, I actually got my first part of the prenup done during a quick flight. The biggest thing is that it inspired a lot of important and transparent discussions we probably would never have thought to ask each other about.

First saved us a ton of money over working with lawyers in our local area and the workflows make the process very clear and easy to navigate. The lawyers were clear in their feedback and very timely in their responses. First made things as uncontentious as possible when discussing difficult topics.

First was a fantastic experience. I was very nervous about the prenuptial process-spending the time to find a lawyer, high fees, schedule meetings, and go through the process felt extremely daunting. First made this process smooth and took the stress out of it.

My experience with First was great. The questions were thorough and led to good conversation with my fiancé. Once we talked things through, it was helpful to get additional information from each of the lawyers that we chose to work with in developing our agreement.

Questions? We're here to help
The purpose of a prenup is to detail exactly what happens to finances and assets as you enter into your marriage — and what happens in the case that your marriage ends. A prenup can outline everything you are bringing into the marriage, like property, stock, student loan debt, or savings. You can use it to pre-agree on how you will treat assets and debt down the road, from inheritance to real estate and even one another’s medical bills. A prenup is custom to you and your partner, purpose-built to help protect you and your future spouse from bigger conflicts down the road.

At First, we include complimentary real-time online notarization for all of our prenups where remote online notarization is permitted and can meet state requirements*. We work with a third-party notary partner to provide our complimentary remote online notarization services. There are no additional fees associated with notarizing your First Agreement.
Remote online notarization is governed by state laws, including electronic notarization identity verification requirements. If you are unable to notarize your prenup online, not to worry! You can take your prenup to be notarized in person at your convenience before your legal marriage takes place.
*Complimentary online notarization is provided in all states where we operate, except Florida.
The all-in cost of a prenuptial agreement can be expensive, in some cases as much as $10k - per partner. The cost typically includes attorney fees for drafting and reviewing the agreement, as well as any necessary consultations and negotiations. Attorneys generally charge hourly, so more often than not, each partner may end up with a surprise bill at the end of the process. When you get a First Agreement, there are no pricey retainers. No bill-by-the-hour. We are a convenient and transparent online platform that can create a prenup with one flat rate — saving valuable time and thousands of dollars in legal fees so you and your partner can focus on the future.
It is generally advisable to consult with a lawyer when creating a prenuptial agreement, which is why we built First to include review with a lawyer. The role of the lawyer is to make sure you understand the terms of the agreement. This is critical to ensuring your prenup is enforceable.
First is the only digital prenup solution with First Prenup Protect, where you can choose and consult a lawyer without ever leaving the platform. We make the process simple, smooth, and seamless for you and your partner.
Even if you don’t have many assets today, there are still many reasons a prenup is beneficial. Creating a prenup together can help open the lines of communication between partners about everything from your views on money, to financial ambitions, debt, and how you spend or save. Having these tough conversations now can help you start your partnership on the same page. And even if you do not have assets now, you probably will in the future. Think about it this way: prenups do not just protect “today you”, but will protect “future you”, too.
The real question isn’t really whether a prenup is right for you. It’s this: Would you rather have your marriage operate on its own, custom rules, pre-agreed to by you and your spouse? Or, in the case of divorce, do you prefer your state laws to decide how to split your assets? Those are the only two options, and, while we’re a little biased, the former is the smarter way to go. Knowledge is power – and having control over the terms of your partnership will help you understand exactly what you’re getting into with your marriage, before it begins.
We can help as long as at least one of you is or will be living in the United States in a location where First does business, provided that you understand that the agreement is governed by the laws in that state and you and your partner are both over the age of 18.
First's platform is currently only available in the English language. Misunderstanding the product due to language barriers could lead to legal or operational risks for users, including risks to the enforceability of their premarital agreement. Therefore, if you or your partner are not proficient at reading and writing the English language, you are not authorized to use First's service. By registering with First and purchasing any services, you represent and confirm that you are proficient at reading and writing the English language. Please see our Terms of Service for further details.
Yes, every prenup created with First is state-specific and designed to be legally binding. Once signed, your prenup becomes legally binding upon the day you marry.
Our attorneys do not work with outside prenuptial agreements. If you wish to engage our attorneys, you will need to purchase The First Prenup with Lawyer Review. This package includes the step of drafting your prenuptial agreement on our platform collaboratively with your partner.
We do not currently offer packages that provide only one attorney. Our packages include:
• Prenup with Lawyer Review, which includes two attorneys—one for each party.
• Prenup without Lawyer Review, which does not include any attorneys.
You are welcome to take your prenup to any attorney of your choosing outside of our platform for review or further consultation.
