I lead the Classic Book Club at Watermark Books in Wichita, KS. We enjoy reading “forgotten classics,” especially by little-known women writers. I stumbled across your blog while looking for information on Mollie Panter-Downes’ novel One Fine Day. I seem to identify more with Laura than you do, especially her lackadaisical housekeeping and lack of concern over it! I also really enjoyed the diurnal structuring of the novel. I’m looking forward to exploring more of the books you’ve addressed here.

Currently I am reading The Wry Romance of the Literary Rectory by Deborah Alan-Jones. On looking at the internet for more information on this author, I came across your blog. What a wonderful find!! It has made my day! Best wishes, Pauline Mills

I’ve just discovered this blog, while I was doing a search to try to understand the relationship between Angela Thirkell and Anthony Trollope. I read your review of Miss Bunting, which I’m currently reading, and very much enjoyed it. I will certainly be exploring other books from your lists as I’m a big fan of ‘middlebrow’ and have read a good many. I find them incredibly comforting in a time when all the news tends to be frustrating and so much of current fiction is horrific. I’m also a big fan of Victor Canning, PG Wodehouse, Rosamund Pilcher, Elizabeth Cadell, R. F. Delderfield, EF Benson, Mrs Gaskell, Miss Read and Flora Thompson. It’s lovely to meet others who share my enjoyment of older books.

I see several of my favourite authors on your list, as well as some I don’t know, but will now investigate. Love to see your libraries, so much my taste!

Hello. Although I don’t share your passion for Jane Austen or Victorian lit, I love PG Wodehouse, ditto Alberto Manguel and Georgette Heyer. Ditto travel. So am signing up as a follower. See you in the blogosphere.
