Are you the Patty Pinkley who posted that wonderful suggestion, that young men wait 48 hours to buy a gun, etc., instead of women waiting for abortion? It’s hilarious, but absolutely on the mark, too. If you are the one, I’d like your permission to send it to senators and congresspeople. (I changed a few words here and there, but left the essence exactly as is.) I think if we blanket congress, social media, campaigns against guns like the Brady campaign, Huffington Post, etc., at least it will get widespread publicity and might even shift the conversation. We can go from reacting to every Repugnican attack, to taking the offense for once. I know you meant it slightly tongue in cheek, but that’s what makes it such a good vehicle for a real campaign, in my opinion.

Hello,
I came across your blog and it’s great how your children motivated you to be involved and provide such useful information for anyone interested in the education of their children or the children in their community. We are also in Texas, and I thought you might find one of our resources helpful for children in schools who may be dealing with difficult circumstances https://www.thethreadalliance.org/kids-and-teens/
It’s wonderful to find people like yourself who care so much for the children in our community and all over. ]]>

“Texas Association of Business says that ‘proprietary matters should trump the concerns of people who want to have a loaded gun on their persons at all times.'” “Proprietary matters?” What is that? And what is wrong with someone’s opinion that they have a “want to have a loaded gun on their persons at all times?” Some people take their responsibilities more seriously than others.
I’ve been privately carrying since 1972 when I went into a business and began making night deposits. All these 40 years, I, my family and anyone in close proximity has been safer than if I weren’t carrying.
If we are going to assemble hundreds of our most precious possessions in one place, we absolutely should provide a secure facility AND a well trained, well equiped protector that can stop a determined madman immediately if not within seconds.
The principal of Sandy Hooks Elementary heard the initial gunfire that shattered the exterior glass, she ran out of her office, identified the threat and ran directly towards it but was gunned down before she could get close enough to tackle the shooter. It’s a societal sin that she wasn’t allowed to arm herself enough to not only protect her own life but also the hundreds of children in her charge. Much of society has chosen to leave the schools exposed to madmen simply because of an erroneous phobia of “a gun.” ]]>

What most individuals do not understand is Repulicans do not care anything about the middle class, especially in Texas. They do not want to fund education because education leads to opportunity for all. Republicans believe in the “New World Order,” meaning the haves and the have-nots (cutting out the middle class). If education is taken away, then there is no ladder to climb to get out of poverty or make a decent wage. If education is taken away then you only have the working poor working for the “mega rich.” This is why Republicans allow our jobs to be shipped off to third world countries who do not have a minimum wage. In every instance when jobs have been shipped off, those people are the working poor working for the “megga rich” no middle class at all. Republicans talk about welfare. This is a form a welfare from the flipped side, making profit from slave labor. Teachers in Texas need to open there eyes. If teachers are voting republican they are voting against they’re students, themselves and other fellow americans who are trying to live the American dream.

Well, there’s a teacher that’s sure enforcing it in Magnolia ISD. She’s threatening 20 points off each student’s grade that doesn’t comply!

One only need look at examples of gun-free zones like Virginia Tech to see that it actually does more harm than good. While it may seem a good idea to keep guns away from educational environments, there really is no difference to a criminal with intentions of doing harm to others through a firearm. The criminal will typically look for an environment where there will be little resistance or threats to the personal safety of the shooter. Gun-free zones actually have the opposite effect and lead to an increased rate of violent crime involving firearms.
I really take my hat off to you for that post. BTW, I’m not on FB. My spouse from Israel sent it to me; someone sent it to her. So it’s getting at least some international attention. š
Thank you for this.

Also, consider Save Texas Schools. Google their site and support their cause for public schools.
