Story of My Life pt. 1

This is a story on how my life got flipped turned upside down. Six year ago I married my prince charming, my King, and I became the stepmom of his seven children, two of whom he has custody of. In Pontiac, Michigan born and raised, on the playground is where I spent most of my days. Between my four children and my sisters’ 11, the playground just seemed to be the right place to let the kids be free. When one handsome guy who was up to something good, started making passes in my neighborhood. He was interested in me and I in him. I got into one little fight, that would be a fight between my heart and my past. My past said, “he is going to hurt you like all the other suckas”, but my heart said, give him a pass. My mom didn’t get scared, she just didn’t like him. Two years into dating, I pulled up to the church about 4 or 5 and I yelled to my past “Yo holmes, smell ya later”. Although this story is somewhat based off of DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith song, I used it to find humor in my story. My life was indeed flipped turned upside down but I wouldn’t change anything about it. A blended family needs a lot of prayer, just for the day to go smoothly.

Adventures in Reading: A New Log!

I homeschooled 5 of my children up until High School. One subject that was required was reading. The summer months we read outside, picnic style. In the winter months we frequently visited our public library, and read in a tucked away quiet reading area.

Another subject that was required was writing. Although they didn’t like it at first, they eventually had a change of heart. Writing stories from their own imagination or writing summaries from books that they had completed had become a daily task. I created each one a reading Journal log where they had full control of their summary, whether they liked or disliked that particular book, and the sketch of their favorite character from the book.

From those memories, I began to think of all the homeschool momma’s and this journal log was created, inspired by my children, of course.

In this reading log, children have full control over their overall summary of their preferred books, the sketches of their favorite character, the option to give their books a thumbs up or a thumbs down. There’s even a challenge page to see how many books can be read within a specific time frame, set by parents, of course.

A Journal Created for Dreamers

I created this journal, inspired by my sister, for ALL dreamers. My sister is not just a dreamer but she can interpret some as well, Daniel 1:17.

Here this journal references 12 instances and/or Biblical figures who had dreams and encounters. Since their dreams were written down, why shouldn’t ours. Habakkuk 2:2-3

In hindsight, our dreams, just like the Biblical figures, are warnings, confirmations, and guidance.

I encourage dream journaling only because this is one of God’s ways of communication, but it is also a tool the enemy uses to gain access to our lives.

Forgiveness

This is a time stamp to remind myself and any other person that is going through the healing journey of forgiveness.

Listen, this is a subject that must be dealt with. As children of God we must forgive so that our Heavenly Father will forgive us.

Here’s a mental note: The hardest part was the offense and how it tore, shattered, and ripped to pieces my/your emotions.

So essentially, in hindsight, FORGIVENESS is the antidote to mitigate the cobwebs of unforgiveness. Unforgiveness is likened to cobwebs, if left unchecked, it will spread.

So forgive and heal.

Our Home

April of 2024, me, my husband, and our 15 year old became a partner family with Habitat for Humanity to get our forever home built. This was a humbling journey, to say the least. I, being the introvert that I am, had to step out of my comfort zone and be present. God answered so many prayers throughout the process. I labeled this journey “Walking by Faith”.

What you see in this picture is a God aligned Labor of Love House. From building, construction, electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, landscaping, and everything in between was done by generous and selfless volunteers. We are immensely in awe of how God orchestrated the entire journey.

Now that we are in the home, it amazes me how a new space can spark creativity, and highlight resounding joy, and newfound peace.

In hindsight, Habitat for Humanity gave my family not just a home but peace, stability, and so many other benefits that we have yet to recognize.
